We always advise consumers with birds to consult with their veterinarian prior to using any chemical in their homes so they can determine what is safe for the birds. You can view the SDS for this product here.
EcoVia EC does not have restrictions for use around animals or aquatic life as long as the product is applied according to the label instructions. You should not apply directly onto animals, and we do recommend trying to spray when animals such as tortoises are not present in the direct application area for extra caution.
Both EcoVia EC and Bifen IT are great for general pest control, both can be sprayed on ornamentals and vegetation (as long as it is not edible vegetation), and both products are labeled to control mosquitoes. It is highly recommended to add an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) to stop their cycles to help prevent future infestations as well.
Please take a moment to review our How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes Guide for more information and helpful tips on eradicating this pest.
EcoVia EC has a 3-4 week residual per the manufacturer. The Bifen IT has a residual of up to 30 days outdoors and up to 90 days indoors.
The Bifen and Ecovia are both labeled for many of the same pests, however, the Bifen is labeled to target more insects. For example, the Bifen is labeled to control up to 75 different insects including carpet beetles whereas the Ecovia is not. Both products are effective as long as you are following the instructions on the product label.
Ecovia is labeled as a livestock spray for breeding stock and recreational animals (Cattle, Swine, Horses, Goats and Sheep) as well. The Bifen IT is not labeled for this same use. Please be sure to review the product labels for more information and complete application instructions.
Please review the Bifen IT Product Label and the EcoVia EC Product Label for more information.

EcoVia EC can be use on a sprayer, backpack sprayer or mist blower, power sprayer, mechanical aerosol misting/fogging equipment, (ULV or thermal), automated spray systems or other conventional application equipment. We do not carry Ryobi equipment but most of the Ryobi machines state in the manual that they do not allow for use of professional grade products which is what we mainly carry, including the EcoVia EC. You would need to contact the Ryobi manufacturer for the best advice. The only option we have that might be an option is the Mosquito Beater. Which is a consumer grade product.
Yes, EcoVia EC can be toxic to honey bees that may come in contact with a treated surface. To minimize the risk of harm to bees, it is recommended to apply in the early morning or in the evening when bees are least active, and to avoid applying to any plants that are actively blooming.
Yes, we do not offer products for use around koi ponds.
You will need to reach out to the manufacturer of EcoVia EC. Rockwell Labs can be reached at 816-283-3167. They also list an emergency contact which is 800-424-9300. It is also recommended to reach back out to the company that sprayed it.
EcoVia EC is comparable to Essentria IC Pro in that they are both all natural. While their ingredients are slightly different the biggest difference is that they are made by two different manufacturers. The IC Pro is also not labeled for as many pests as the EcoVia EC.
EcoVia EC is a top choice as a natural insecticide option, it is labeled kills of a wide range of flying, crawling and sucking insects such as mosquitoes, ants, cockroaches, spiders, fleas, bed bugs, flies, wasps, ticks, brown marmorated stink bugs, kudzu bugs, white flies, aphids, and many more. EcoVia EC can safely be applied in and around homes, businesses, near and over water such as boat docks and pool areas without harming aquatic life, as well as numerous other areas. People and pets should be out of the area during treatment until dry, typically about 4-6 hours.
EcoVia can be used in thermal foggers for control of mosquitoes and other pests. Per the label: FOGGING: For ULV (cold fog) and thermal fog applications, apply undiluted or dilute with light mineral oil or another suitable non-phytotoxic diluent. Use up to 0.25-1.5 fl oz of product per 1000 sq ft of ground surface area, or up to 10-60 fl oz per acre. Use higher rates for heavy vegetation and/or when target insect populations are high. For best results, apply when insects are most active and when conditions are conducive to keeping the fog close to the ground.
The time frame it takes EcoVia EC to eliminate spiders will depend on the number of spiders in the area and the rate the product is applied at. It could take up to a week to see results. This product does not guarantee that the spiders will be gone forever. The product will likely need to be reapplied for maintenance every 21 days.
EcoVia EC can be applied around cracks and crevices on the exterior including the window and door frames.
In a cold/ULV Fogger, you can dilute concentrates like EcoVia EC with either water or with oil. Typically you would dilute with water whenever possible outdoors to reduce the risk of phytotoxicity on the plants you are treating. Per the product label, use up to 0.25-1.5 fl oz of product per 1000 sq ft of ground surface area, or up to 10-60 fl oz per acre. It sounds like you will likely need to dilute the product to apply at this rate if your fogger is applying product that quickly.
EcoVia EC should not damage or stain the siding when used as directed on the product label and we have not heard compliants of this happening.
You would treat the Solo Sprayer? as you would any other backpack or hand held sprayer and rinse out the tank and blower with clean water in a triple rinse method. If cleaned properly between uses of any product including EcoVia IC, it will not clog the unit or cause any damage. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
EcoVia EC can be applied just to the perimeter of an area as a sort of barrier to kill insects coming into the area but if you have insects already across the entire area it would be best to cover it all.
EcoVia EC is labeled for treating springtails, and does not contain an Insect Growth Regulator. IGR's are not necessary when treating for springtails. Springtails indicate that there is a moisture issue because they breed in walls or under slabs where a moisture issue may exist. Typically, pesticides alone will not take care of a springtail problem. It is required to fix whatever moisture issue is causing the problem. You should read our How To Get Rid of Springtails article for further information.
