    Q
Will Fertilome Over the Top II kill Bermuda grass in Fescue?
    A
Fertilome Over The Top II is labeled to control Bermudagrass but please refer to the product label for the tolerant species of Fescue that that it can be applied to.  We want to be clear that Bermuda can be suppressed, but it is VERY difficult to kill completely.  It will take multiple treatments to finally kill it. Fusilade II is usually the go to product for this issue.

  • Asked by Mike from Denham Springs, La
    08/09/2014
    Q
Can Over The Top 2 be used to control unwanted weeds in Aztec Grass borders?
    A
Fertilome Over the Top II Weed Killer can be sprayed over desired plants listed on product label to control annual and perennial grasses.  It will not work on broadleaf weeds.
Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is a selective, post-emergent herbicide concentrate which controls dozens of broadleaf weeds and other noxious plants susceptible to its active ingredient and might be a better product for you as it is safe on turf.  Please refer to the product label for more information.

  • Asked by Tom from Tampa, Fl

    Q
Need a herbicide to spray creeping vine weed in my indian horthorns.
it is a vine that grows everywhere here in tampa i mostly just pull it out but it comes back. Round up does not kill it.
    A
When treating for creeping charlie it is best to usually spot treat the growth with a glyphosate or round up type product.  This is the best option if it is growing in ornamental areas or places where you can treat it individually. Follow up application may be neccessary for a complete kill.

  • Asked by Miles from Lindsborg, Ks
    03/22/2016
    Q
How does Fertilome Over the Top II Grass Killer affect Bermudagrass? Will it affect tall fescue?
I want to kill some Bermuda grass in my yard, but have tall fescue mixed in with it. Will it kill the Bermuda grass and leave the fescue alone or will it kill the fescue also? Thanks!
    A

Fertilome Over the Top II is a grass killer so it will bermudagrass and tall fescue grass.

Bermuda would be considered a grassy weed, so you need a product that is geared towards grassy weeds and not broadleaf weeds.  We want to be clear that bermuda can be suppressed, but it is VERY difficult to kill completely.  It will take multiple treatments to finally kill it.  But Fusilade II is usually the go to product for this issue.

This is directly off of the product label:

Apply 0.07-0.14 oz/1000 sq. ft. (3-6 oz./A) along with 0.25% v/v (1/2 pt./25 gals.) of a nonionic surfactant. Application should be made every 28 days when the grass weeds are actively growing. The higher rates may result in temporary discolorization of the desirable turf with recovery in 10-14 days. Do not apply to desirable turf which is under stress. For best results, make applications in spring and fall and avoid treatments during July and August.
Complete control of undesirable grass may take 1-2 growing seasons.

We also recommend calling your local county extension office as they usually know the optimum times for spraying lawns in your area.

  • Asked by Larry from Evans, Ga
    07/08/2016
    Q
Why is Fertilome Over the Top II Grass Killer NOT for use on lawns but Vantage is?
I noticed that these two products are the same chemical with only the concentration being different. Why is this product (as well as the identical Hi-Yield product) labeled "not for use on lawns" and Vantage is specifically mentioned as an excellent product to control annual grasses in warm weather grasses? By using the same final concentration could I safely use them interchangeably?
    A

Actually neither the product label for the Hi-Yield Grass Killer or the Southern Ag Vantage Grass give instructions for using on a turf.  Hi Yield states on the product label that only Red Fescue, Chewings Fescue, Hard Fescue, and Dichondra Turfs are also tolerant to this product. Both the Hi-Yield version and the Fertilome Over the Top II Grass Killer are meant to be used over the top of vegetables, gardens, trees, shrubs, ornamentals and ground covers only.  Products should be used as directed on their respective product label and we would not advise of off label applications.
