    Q
Will Gentrol Aerosol IGR kill roaches?
    A

IGR’s including Gentrol Aerosol IGR when used alone will not kill roaches or insects in general as they are only growth inhibitors and stop the growth cycle and reproduction phases. A successful roach treatment program should include a residual insecticide, insect growth regulator and roach bait and repeat applications every 10-14 days will be needed to fully eradicate the colony. The number of retreatments can vary depending on the level of infestation. If you are still seeing roach activity after 60 days, you will want to rotate roach baits as they can develop a resistance or bait aversion. .

You will not always see dead roaches with any product as they will die where ever they die but Gentrol IGR does not kill anything directly only prevents young from maturing into reproducing adults so used as part of a program.

Please view our Roach Control Kits for the best treatment program for active roach infestations. We have our How to Get Rid of Roach Treatment Guide for more information and tips on treatment.

    Q
Can I use Gentrol aerosol in conjunction with Point Source?
    For German cockroaches
    A

The most common and effective IGR used for German Roach control is Gentrol IGR, which comes in an aerosolconcentrated liquid, and point-source tablet.  You would not use both the aerosol and the point source in the same location, however you would be using the IGR in addition to a residual spray and./or gel baits.  Please read our German Roach Guide, for further information.

    Q
I have cockroaches coming from my septic tank through bathtub and sinks. How do I get rid of them?
    A
Nibor D Insecticide mixed with a concentrate like  Gentrol IGR Concentrate would be a better option for your needs than the Gentrol Aerosol can. Since your problem is coming from the septic system, you will need to use products that can reach the septic system completely. If you mix together the Nibor D and Gentrol IGR, you can pour it down toilets and drains to have it get carried into your septic system to coat the materials they are breeding and feeding on within the tank. It may take some time to eliminate all of them, but this would be the most efficient way to get chemical to them that would also be safe for your septic system. If you still have some persisting after a few weeks, you can mix up more to pour down the toilets and drains to treat again.

    Q
Can you use Gentrol Aerosol IGR with Raid Max bug barrier?
Can this be used in combination with raid max bug barrier? Palmettos invaded my convertible when I had a water leak, and I was hoping I could spray this under seats and in crevices. Once dried would it be safe to sit in the car?
    A

Gentrol Aerosol IGR can be used with any insecticide and can be applied to the seams of seats, edges of carpet where it meets the dash/doors, and other cracks and crevices in cars. Once dry, it is safe to be in the car when the product is used as directed.

    Q
    Drain moths
Had a problem 7 years ago when a pipe broke underground in our mobile home park. I tried the tape over the drains but didnt see any and felt they were coming in through the screens from outside. Had ordered some bio gel from another company at the time which took care of the problem. This year our leach field broke down and it was quite a few months before the owner came in and fixed the problem. Once he fixed it, now I have seen the moths again. But again, I notice them outside. I just ordered the 2 cans of the Gentrol Aerosol IGR after reading the high rated reviews on your website. I would like to know if I can spray this outside by the area where the leach field is? I believe that standing water and matter from the past months were not fully cleaned up.
    A
Gentrol IGR is an indoor only product because it is not photo-stable and will rapidly breakdown when exposed to sunlight. You can continue to use the Gentrol IGR indoors to help limit the growth and breeding cycles of the drain flies.

    Q
Does Gentrol Aerosol IGR - 16 oz. can affect insects on contact, or is it in the air like the Gentrol Point Source?
I have mealworms that I feed to my pet gecko, so I'm worried about using Gentrol point source as I think it might get affect their growth cycle. Does the aerosol spray only affect bugs if they crawl over it/come into contact with it? For example if I spray it on the floor or into cracks/crevices? Or does it have a range of 75 sq ft like the point source? Is it transmitted through vapors in the air like the point source?
    A

Gentrol Aerosol is the same thing as Gentrol Point Source Stations just in an aerosol form and will work in the same way by transmitting its vapor through the air to disrupt the life cycle. Gentrol is not an insecticide, therefore it will not directly kill mealworms or any other insects. Since mealworms are an immature stage of an insect, though, we recommend you don't use Gentrol in the area the mealworms are kept.

    Q
If I have already spread boric acid power on cracks and around baseboards, can I spray Gentrol Aerosol over it?
    A

It is best for Gentrol Aerosol IGR to be applied any before any dusts so it gets on the surface vs after you apply a dust that can coat the area.  Once the Gentrol application is dry, you can apply dust.

    Q
How long is the residual of Gentrol Aerosol IGR? Does this work through contact as the insect walks across the treated area?
    A

The retreatment time intervals for Gentrol IGR Aerosol are based off the target insects being treated. For roaches, Gentrol IGR Aerosol leaves a residual of 4 months, for bed bugs there is a 2 week residual and for fruit flies/drain flies, the residual is 2-4 weeks. You would do follow up treatments at those intervals per the product label

Can Suspend SC, Advion, and Gentrol Aerosol all be used together?
I purchased these items one by one when doing research for a German cockroach infestation. I want to make sure these products can be used at the same time or in what order.

    Q
Can Gentrol Aerosol IGR be used with glue traps? If so, should they be used in different places?
I.e., Will the gentrol decrease the effectiveness of the glue traps if it is in close proximity to the traps? About a week ago, I found a long forgotten book bag on the floor of a carpeted room (a spare room used primarily for storage). When I picked it up, I saw maybe 50 juvenile roaches on the bag and several more inside it and in the carpet where it had lain. I sprayed everything with raid, took the bag to the dumpster, sprayed again and then vacuumed. Since then, I've seen 3 juveniles in that room. So now, I'm trying to make sure I have this problem nipped in the bud. I'd be grateful for your advice.
    A

Gentrol Aerosol IGR can be used in conjunction with glueboards, as these are only designed to catch insects while Gentrol prevents young from maturing into reproducing adults.  Gentrol is directed to cracks and crevices around the room, traps are laid where you notice activity and are better more for monitoring than eliminating an infestation.

We would recommend one of our roach control kits. You can see the kits by clicking on the link here.

We also have a great article for eliminating them here.

    Q
    Safe to use in dishwasher?
I have found several German roaches inside of my dishwasher. Is it safe to spray inside the crevices of the dishwasher?
    A

Gentrol Aerosol IGR  should not be applied inside the dishwasher. You will want to keep it dry after each use and apply products in the Roach Control Rotation A Kit for treating roaches along with non-chemical methods. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Roaches for a successful eradication program.

    Q
Can Gentrol Aerosol IGR be used in the same areas as a roach bait? Will it repel the roaches?
    A

Gentrol Aerosol IGR should not be used around baits or as an insecticide for any of the listed pests, just an insect growth regulator. It will not repel roaches, it provides preventative action, since it disrupts stored product pests' normal development.

    Q
What is the best way to apply Gentrol Aerosol IGR to a drain?
    A

When using Gentrol Aerosol IGR for drains, apply product into and around the downspout and catch basin area. This is done with the crack and crevice straw that comes with the product. Coat these areas thoroughly as fly larva develop in the scum buildup on the sides of drain pipes. Be sure not to run water down the drain after application until the product has dried completely. Repeat applications at 2 to 4 week intervals depending upon the severity of infestation.

    Q
Does Gentrol Aerosol work for Pantry Bugs?
I have gotten rid of the nest, cleaned and sprayed Gentrol in every nook and crevice. I have not seen an adult in several days. Does this mean they are gone or do I need to do something additional. I do not want them to come back. Much appreciated.
    A

The Gentrol Aerosol IGR can be used to treat Indian Meal Moths and other moth species that are listed on the label. This treatment will help stop the insects' reproduction and stop the growth of immature insects. Our Pantry Pest Kit would be an excellent addition to your sanitation and Gentrol applications since it contains an adulticide, CyKick Aerosol, and traps that will catch several of the most common pantry pest species.

Gentrol stained the grout on my tile floor. The stain looks like oil stain. How can I remove it? Thanks.

We would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly for instructions on how to remove a stain. Generally, Gentrol Aerosol IGR will go on clear and dry that way as well. Their phone number is 415-562-6903.
