    Q
Is Gentrol IGR Concentrate safe for use in cabinets where dishes are kept?
A pest control company came and sprayed Gentrol in the kitchen. I did not see what happened, but he mentioned they sprayed in the cabinets where our dishes and utensils are kept. Will there be residual chemicals on the utensils? How hard is it to wash off IGR?
    A

Yes, Gentrol IGR Concentrate can be used in cabinets where food and other kitchen items are stored. All items should be removed before application and enough time given to allow the application to dry before putting the food, dishes, utensils, etc back into the cabinet.

    Q
Does Gentrol IGR work on bedbugs or not?
I was wanting to know due to one of your answers regarding gentrol not being in your bedbug kits because you would rather see customers money spent on products that are effective.
    A

The Gentrol IGR is the only birth control that has been shown to actually work on bed bugs, however since is not 100% guaranteed to work every single time in every home we do not state you must purchase it but instead leave it up to the customers discretion on whether they would like to use or not.

    Q
How do you apply for drain flys when you are unsure which drain they are coming from?
    A
We recommend you use the Gentrol Aerosol for drain fly infestations. For drains, apply product into and around the downspout and catch basin area. Coat these areas thoroughly as fly larva develop in the scum buildup on the sides of drain pipes. Repeat applications at 2 to 4 week intervals depending upon the severity of infestation. You can treat all of the drains in the infested areas.

  • Asked by Jessica from Slc, Ut

    Q
Will Gentrol IGR Concentrate harm house plants?
I have a fruit fly infestation and they are breeding in the soil of my house plants! Would I be able to just apply it to the soil?
    A

Gentrol is a product used to sterilize fruit flies. This means it will keep them from reproducing, it is not a product that will kill adult fruit flies. It should not be applied to houseplants. It doesn't sound like you are experiencing fruit flies, if they are solely in the houseplants. Fungus gnats can be confused as a fruit fly and are harmless to humans.  The fungus gnat larvae can damage the plant root system as they feed on organic matter.

Fungus gnat control is fairly simple:

    • The easiest way to get rid of gnats in the home is to let your soil dry out completely in between waterings, both indoors and out. Lack of moisture is the natural gnat killer; the larvae cannot survive in dry conditions. Overwatering or constantly damp soil is the perfect environment for fungus gnats.
    • We recommend drenching the soil with a pesticide formulated for gnats or flying insects, like Talstar P to kill gnat larvae.
    • An aerosol gnat repellent spray containing pyrethrin like Mircocare aerosol can kill existing adult gnats in the area.
    • Sometimes fungus gnats enter a home because of a leaky pipe in a wall void or water leaks around windows and doors. Using sticky gnat traps can help you locate the source of the fungus gnats, and when located, try to dry out and seal those damp areas.

    Q
Is Gentrol IGR safe around kids?
I just bought this product along with some point source for bed bugs, I intend to use the spray for the beds and furniture but is it ok to spray the beds the kids sleep on? And if so, how long should I wait before the kids can be in contact with the treated furniture and beds?
    A

Gentrol IGR should be applied to interior cracks and crevices when the children are not present. Once the treated surfaces are completely dry then they can return.Gentrol Point Source Stations are labeled for roaches and stored pests and not bedbugs. Gentrol should not be the only product used to eradicate bedbugs and it should not be applied to areas of furniture that will have future skin contact. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article and videos on How to Get Rid of Bedbugs for a successful bedbug eradication program.

  • Asked by Sheryl from Marysville, Oh
    01/12/2017
    Q
What IGR do you recommend for springtail that are indoors?
    A

Spring tails can be tough to eliminate because they reproduce very quickly.  There are no IGR's that are labeled for springtails.  In almost every case where people have spring tails they also have a moisture problem such as a leaking or sweating pipe, poor ventilation in their crawl space, lots of wet mulch right up next to their house, etc. You must locate and correct the moisture problem to get rid of the spring tails, insecticides alone will not do the job.

  • Asked by Ken from St Cloud
    11/10/2017
    Q
Should I use Gentrol Concentrate first for roach control?
When one has German roaches, my understanding is that you apply gentrol and wait 10-14 days to allow the sterilant to halt reproduction before you commence baiting. Baiting before that seems counter intuitive in my mind. You don't want to kill off the carriers before you've exposed the whole colony. Is my logic flawed?
    A

When dealing with an active infestation of roaches, we recommending using a roach bait gel, a residual insecticide, and an IGR altogether for best results. Each of these products attacks the infestation in different ways, and since roaches reproduce very quickly and require very little food and water to thrive, you want to come at the infestation with everything you have for fastest results. Keep in mind, too, that most of the roaches in a structure are out of site, so the population is much bigger than just what you see. We recommend taking a few moments to review our Roach Treatment Guide for more tips. We also sell all these products together in our Roach Control Kits. Please let us know if you have further questions.
