    Q
Will Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser kill groundhogs in their tunnels?
    A

Yes, you can use Giant Destroyer gassers to kill groundhogs in burrows if this treatment is allowed in your State. Keep in mind that you may need multiple cartridges for larger animals, and that you should not use gassers in burrows that run under structures. Usually trapping is the most effective method for removing groundhogs. You can browse our traps and other tips for them here.

  • Asked by June from Coxsackie, New York

    Q
Is the Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser cartridge supposed to burn up totally?
I've tried three times and the animal, I'm assuming a skunk, after a couple of days reopens the hole and I find the cartridges laying on top of the ground. they seem to be solid missing the wick. they were smoking and hissing when I initially lit them ..
    A

Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser is made up of the wick and internal ingredients, just like a firework in a tube. The cartridge will be left behind and should be discarded. If you are still finding animal activity, then either there are more animals than you thought, or all of the entrances to the burrows may not have been closed when the gasser was used.

  • Asked by Dave from Estacada, Or
    06/10/2013
    Q
    skunks living under my shed
Will this work to use underneath a small shed approx 12'x8'. The skunks have dug underneath. I want to chase them out so I can dispose of them and then use poultry wire to keep them out. I don't want to start my shed on fire with the use of this bomb however so my question is what is the likelyhood of starting a fire?
    A
The giant destroyers are only designed to be used in a hole/tunnel in the ground where it can be covered and let the gas it releases build up to suffocate the animals to death. You would need to either use a repellant spray on one side of the shed to try and push them out the entrance and then close it, or try trapping them and removing them to a different area. You can review our traps for skunks HERE. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Michelle from Lake Tahoe, Nv
    08/23/2018
    Q
Is there a risk of fire from the smoke evacuation when using Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser? How long before the gas event is over?
    A

No, if this product is used according to the product label to treat ground burrows, the Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser would not be pose any risk of fire while the smoke is being dispersed. The product label advised that there is a risk of burning if exposed to skin, clothes, dry grass, leaves or other combustible materials. It also states do not use cartridges where vegetation is dry and likely to catch fire. Once it has been placed in a burrow, the hole should be immediately covered and any places where there is visible smoke coming from underground should be covered as well. This is to ensure proper treatment and to contain the smoke. The Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser will burn for approximately 10-15 minutes.

  • Asked by Davi from Gaston Oregon

    Q
Can I use Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser in my yard if the local fire department states I cannot because it is not burning season?
    Does this restriction make sense?
    A

Yes, if there is a burn ban being enforced by the local Fire department, it would not be suggested to use Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser. Per the product label, “This cartridge will bum vigorously until completely spent and is capable of causing severe burns to exposed skin and clothes, igniting dry grass, leaves or loose soil.”

  • Asked by Alexander from Lake Country
    11/20/2018
    Q
Can I use Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/ Gasser inside a vacant home to get rid of rats?
    A

NO!  The Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser cannot be used inside.  According to the product label: Do not use under buildings, homes, porches or any structure due to possible fire hazard. Only use inside of burrows and never inside of buildings. The best way to get rid of the rats that are already in the home is to trap them with rat snap trapsrat glue boards and/or live catch rat traps. We do not recommend using poison baits indoors because after the rats eat the bait they may go into an inaccessible area to die causing a terrible odor and possibly even a secondary insect infestation (it is a myth that there is a poison bait that will cause the rats to dry out and not smell or to leave the house in search of water). Please take a few moments to read our article on How To Get Rid of Rats

  • Asked by Sandy from Springville, California
    03/23/2019
    Q
Ground squirrels have burrowed under a 300 year old oak tree. Would the gass from the Giant Destroyer hurt the roots of the tree?
    A

The fuse on the Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser burns at about 450 degrees so getting it too close to the roots of a tree would be harmful and could burn them. The gas itself is not harmful to any trees.

  • Asked by Jeremy from Butte, North Dakota
    08/07/2019
    Q
Can the Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser be used to kill a underground nest of yellow jackets?
    A

No, the Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser is for use in burrows for gassing Gophers, Moles, Woodchucks, Rats, Skunks, and Ground Squirrels.  It cannot be used for yellow jackets.  Instead you can dust the opening of the nest with something like Tempo 1% Dust.   You will need a hand duster to apply it with.  It usually works within 24 to 48 hours. You want to go up to the opening where they are flying in and out of at dusk or at night when they are not active and puff twice directly into the hole.  Then pull the duster out and puff directly at the hole to cover the opening from about 5 inches away.  This is the most efficient and fastest way to eliminate a yellow jacket nest in the ground

  • Asked by Charles from Portland, Oregon
    08/15/2018
    Q
Can the Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser be used around honey bees?
We have a garden and several hives in the affected area. Can I use giant Destroyer around honey bees? Even if most of the smoke is staying Underground. Also, can I use the giant destroyer at night when the bees are in their hive?
    A

The Giant Destroyer Smoke Bomb/Gasser does state on the label that it is highly toxic to wildlife.  Once it has been placed in a burrow, the hole should be immediately covered and any places where there is visible smoke coming from underground should be covered as well.  As long as the holes are covered and there is no smoke leaking out, there should be no issue with using it in the vicinity of bee hives.
