    Q
Is Ornamec Over-the-Top Grass Herbicide safe to use in my beds to eventually eradicate Bermuda grass?
Ok to use on top of Bamboo and Muhly Grass, Bicolor Iris, russian sage, salvia, Damianita, rosemary? Also I see different mixing rates on the label.Table 1--For spot treatments 10 oz per gallon (seems like a lot). And, I can't seem to find how many hours or day(s) I can store once mixed with water (in case can't get done in one day!)
    A

Gordons Ornamec Over-the-Top Grass Herbicide is designed to target grasses, so it will not be safe to use on all the plants you have listed here. Per the product label, Ornamec should only be used as a direct spray around bamboo (not over the top of it), and it is used to kill muhly grass. Most of the other plants you listed should be tolerant, but keep in mind this cannot be used over herbs like rosemary if you plant to consume them. Please refer to Table 5 on the product label for the complete list of tolerant species. The spot treatment rate on Table 1 is 2.5 oz of Ornamec with 0.3 oz of a non-ionic surfactant per gallon of water. You should only mix the product that you plant to use right away; you do not want to store diluted products in your sprayer.

  • Asked by Yazzie from Macon, Ga
    05/05/2017
    Q
Is Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide safe on centipede?
I want to kill the bermuda grass that is in centipede grass. Is it safe on centipede. I am looking for something to use that is safe on centipede grass
    A

Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide is a grass killer so would not be used on a centipede lawn.  We actually do not carry a product that is labeled to remove Bermuda grass from centipede.  The only suggestion we can give is to kill the Bermuda with a glyphosate product and then re-seed the centipede in those areas.

  • Asked by John
    08/17/2015
    Q
Will Gordons Ornamec Over the Top Grass Herbicide and/or Sedgehammer kill clover in mazus ground cover and not harm the mazus?
    A

Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide is labeled to kill grassy weeds in ornamental areas, so most likely, it would not effect either the mazus or the clover. Sedgehammer is not labeled to control clover, either. It would probably be best to carefully spot treat the clover with a glyphosate herbicide such as RoundUp QuikPro and then re-seed or overplant as needed.

  • Asked by Jim from Riverside, Ca
    06/27/2018
    Q
Would Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide be safe for use on a lawn mix of Fescue and Kentucky blue grass?
I would like to find a product to control unwanted Bermuda.
    A

Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide is safe to use on Tall Fescue, but not Kentucky Bluegrass, so it would damage your desirable turf if you have these grasses mixed together.

You can use Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester to help control Bermuda grass in your Fescue and Bluegrass lawn.

We also recommend calling your local county extension office as they usually know the optimum times for spraying lawns in your area.

  • Asked by Steve from Havre De Grace, Maryland 21078
    08/24/2018
    Q
Can I use Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide for ridding Bermuda Grass mixed in with Tall Fescue?
    A

Yes, according to the Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide  product label: Apply 20 to 24 fluid ounces of product per acre. For spot treatments use 0.5 fluid ounces (1 tablespoon) of this product with 0.3 fluid ounces (2 tablespoons) of nonionic surfactant in one gallon of water to treat 1,000 square feet. The first application should be made in early spring (April/May) when bermudagrass is breaking dormancy. The second application should be during September/October when bermudagrass is preparing for dormancy. Applications during the hot months of summer should be avoided. We want to be clear that bermuda can be suppressed, but it is VERY difficult to kill completely.  It will take multiple treatments to finally kill it.
