  • Asked by Don from Kirksville, Missouri
    02/04/2021
    Q
If a pasture is sprayed with Grazon, then fed to cows, then the manure composted, would it kill my garden to use the compost in it?
If that manure is composted and put in my vegetable garden, will the Grazon kill my plants? I ask, because I've read several articles where gardeners have used composted cow manure, then their gardens died, After talking to the farmers, they had sprayed their fields with Grazon, and that residual amounts killed their vegetable gradens.
    A

Per the label, "Do not use manure from animals feeding on hay treated with GrazonNext HL Herbicide in compost". Also, "Do not transfer animals grazing or feeding on hay to areas where sensitive broadleaf crop occur without first allowing 3 days of grazing on an untreated pasture. Otherwise, urine and manure may contain enough aminopyralid to cause injury to sensitive broadleaf plants."

    Q
How will Grazon Next HL affect newly planted grass seed?
When should chemical be applied on newly planted grass seed?
    A

You should wait until the new turf is established before using GrazonNext HL Herbicide on newly planted grass seed. Per the product label: During the season of establishment, GrazonNext HL should be applied only after perennial grasses are well established (have developed a good secondary root system and show good vigor). Most perennial grasses are tolerant to GrazonNext HL at this stage of development.

  • Asked by Carolyn from Smithville, Ga
    07/09/2021
    Q
Will Grazon Next kill Sicklepodand ?
In one pasture, I mowed because the weed was taking over. Should I wait 7 days before spraying. In the other pastures, I have not mowed.
    A
GrazonNext HL Herbicide is labeled to use for control of sicklepod at the rate of 24 - 34 fl oz per Acre. You generally want to apply herbicides to young, actively growing weeds for best results. If you have cut the plants down, then you will likely need to wait until there is new foliage before spraying it again.

We recommend reaching out to your County Extension Office for recommendations on when to spray for this weed as well as other cultural control recommendations.
