Corrie from Danielsville, Ga writes

I have free range chickens and would like to put something out broadcast in the yard for fire ants. I've got about 1 acre I want to cover. The chickens can be put up for a few days (or however long is necessary) once the product is applied.

I would like to use Talstar or Advion but I'm unsure if they are safe after the watering in. Any other suggestions are helpful. I also have children who play in the yard but I can keep them up for a few days as well. Thanks!

Answer:

Bifen XTS is a good choice for either a broadcast application or for individual mound drenching for fire ants and other ants.  We would recommend removing the chickens and the children out of the area while you are doing the treatment. Once the product has dried completely, it is safe for them to go back into the area.? Be sure to follow the application instructions on the product label.
