I have a pregnant dog that weighs about 10 lbs. How do I safely kill fleas on her?

Answer:

We do not recommend that you use any type of insecticide product on a pregnant or lactating dog. The best thing you can do for fleas on your pregnant dog is to bathe her with a dish detergent such as Dawn that has been diluted with water. Let the diluted soap sit on your dog for about 5-10 minutes. Rinse her thoroughly, then go to work with a flea comb. Drop fleas that have been combed out of her coat into a cup soapy water. Wash or replace all of her bedding and vacuum all carpeted areas frequently. You can treat all carpeted areas with Ultracide to help get rid of any fleas that are infesting the house (your dog must be removed from the area that is being treated) and Flea Stoppers to help keep the fleas gone. There are some topical products such as Frontline, that are labeled for use on pregnant dogs, but you should consult with your veterinarian to be sure it is safe for your dog.
