    Q
How much of Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer do I mix per gallon of water for treating dollarweed (pennywort) in my pond?
I have a solo backpack sprayer.
    A

Per the Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer product label, for treating pennywort or other aquatic weeds:  Use 1 gallon of this product in 25 gallons of water per acre.  Uniform coverage is essential. Avoid submerging plants after treatment.  Application should be made when leaves are fully developed above water line and plants are actively growing.  Treatment of aquatic weeds can result in oxygen loss, so only treat 1/2 to 1/3 of the area at a time, and wait at least 21 days between applications in order to avoid fish suffocation.

    Q
Can I place Centipede sod over soil that Hi-Yield 2, 4-D was sprayed on the area?
This is a cemetery plot. Everything on it is dead. There was some centipede left alive. I fertilized it and now nothing is green. I sprayed last spring. Fertilized about 4 weeks ago.
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer does not have any retrictions on when you can sod after or before application. You should be able to put the sod down now as the weed control in this is a post-emergent only, so you won't have to worry about disturbing any barriers created in the soil by a pre-emergent.

    Q
How do I clean the tank after use of the 2,4- d herbicide ?
I seen a post saying to keep livestock off pasture for at least 30 days. Does this still apply if I spot spray the weeds?
    A

Monterey Spray Tank Cleaner will help to prolong the life of your spraying equipment and help you to avoid dangerous chemical mixing and cross contamination. The rate is 1 1/2 tablespoons to 2 gallons of water.

It is recommended that you keep livestock off the pasture even with spot treating.

  • Asked by Gail from Bourbon, Mo

    Q
How do I mix Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer for a pond with fish?
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is labeled for boat applications at the rate of 1 gallon of product to 25 gallons of water per acre. During the growing season, weeds decompose in a 2 to 3 week period following treatment. Begin treatment along the shore and proceed outwards in bands to allow fish to move into untreated areas. Waters having limited and less dense weed infestations may not require partial treatments.Uniform coverage is essential. Avoid submerging plants after treatment. Application should be made when leaves are fully developed above water line and plants are actively growing. Treatment of aquatic weeds can result in oxygen loss from decomposition of dead weeds. This loss can cause fish suffocation. Therefore, to minimize this hazard, treat 1/3 to 1/2 of the water area in a single operation and wait at least 21 days between treatments. Begin treatments along the shore and proceed outwards in bands to allow fish to move into untreated areas. The maximum rate per broadcast application is 4.7 gallons per surface acre, limited to applications is 2 per year. Do not make a broadcast application within 21 days of previous broadcast application. Spot treatments are permitted.

    Q
Can I use Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer on asparagus?
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer does not list on the product label that it is safe for use around edibles, only in non-crop areas.  The Avenger Weed Killer Concentrate is safe for use around edible vegetation and fruit trees as it does not persist in the soil and is approved for organic gardening.  Be sure to not spray any of the plants you do not want to kill as it is non-selective and will kill anything to which it is applied.

    Q
Can I use Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer in my flower and vegetable garden at the lowest dilution?
The dollar weeds are overtaking both gardens. Keeping up by hand is not getting the job done. We need an alternate solution.
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is not labeled for dollarweed or to be used around edibles at any rate.  A better option in this area would be to spot treat with a glyphosate-based product like GlyPhoSel Pro.
