    Trying to control clover and weeds from crowding out the new grass

    Hi-Yield 2, 4-D can be used on established fescue grass, or grass that has been mowed at least twice.

    Will Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer harm centipede grass?

    Yes, it likely would.  Hi Yield 2, 4-D is not safe to be used on sensitive grasses such as Zoysia, Centipede and St. Augustine.  If you'd like to give us more information about the weeds you need to treat, we'd be happy to help you find an alternative product to use.

    What is the amount of Hi Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer do you put in a hose end sprayer?

    Unfortunately, we do not recommend applying the Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer with a hose end sprayer because of the mixing rates needed for proper mixing. The mixing ratios will vary according to where you are treating and what you are treating for. According to the Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer product label: For Spot treatment in non-crop areas: Use 1 pint in 3 gallons of water or 4 oz. in 3/4 gallon in a hand sprayer. In pastures and range land: Use 3 to 4 oz. in 1 to 3 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. On Ornamental Turf: Use 16 oz. in 1 to 8 gallons of water per 2,725 sq. ft. or 2 gallons in 15 to 50 gallons per acre. Please review the product label for complete usage instructions.

    Can I treat an area near my well with Hi-Yield 2,4-D?
    I need to treat an outbreak of creeping indigo about 100 ft from my well pump and directly on top of my septic tank. Will the 2,4-D get into my water supply?

    The product label for the Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer does state:  Application around a cistern or well may result in contamination of drinking water or groundwater.  It would be recommended to keep applications at least 15 feet away from these areas.

    At what mix ratio will I apply Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer to kill chickweed in my pasture?
    I have what appears to be chickweed in my pastures. The chickweed is very thick and full of seed. Are the seed also killed? How long must my animals stay out of the pasture?

    When using Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer for chickweed you would mix it at 3 - 4 oz in 1 to 3 gallons of water per 1000 sq. ft. The manufacturer advises to wait a minimum of 30 days after application before allowing animals to graze on the treated area. It they are non-grazing, they would need to be out of the area while spraying and until the product dries completely.

    Willit harm the perennials (ie. day lilies, irises)?

    Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer could harm the flowers are stated on the product label.  You would just want to be sure to avoid spraying or allowing the drift to contact the desirable plants.

    Will Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer kill Johnson Grass?
    I was recommended this, yet the label does not indicate that it will. The soil is sandy, there are millions of seeds on the ground from neglect over a couple of years. The area is located just southeast of San Antonio. I have a serious back problem, yet what I have been doing is digging up the plants and any roots and burning them. However, 3/4 of an acre is a large area to dig up. I can't afford to hire a guy to do this as I am on disability, and I have no one who will help me in this endeavor. What is the proper chemical to use, that does not cost an arm and a leg? Thanks for any help you can give this gal with a back problem.

    Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer will target broadleaf weeds such as dandelion, plantain, and chickweed, and is made to be used safely in many types of turfgrass, so it will not be effective for eradicating Johnsongrass. We are not sure if you need to kill the Johsongrass in a turf area or around ornamentals, so it is hard for us to make a recommendation. You can use a grass killer such as Grass Out Max to kill Johnsongrass around listed ornamental shrubs and trees, but it is not safe to use in your turfgrass. Otherwise, you may need to just spot treat with a non-selective herbicide such as RoundUp QuikPro, and then re-seed the turf. There are also pre-emergent herbicides for Johsongrass, but we would need to know the type of turf you have to make this recommendation. Surflan AS is a popular choice for listed warm-season turf. You may also contact our Customer Service department at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST for further assistance.

    Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is safe for pets and children to re enter treated area after drying. Please allow at least 2 hours to completely dry and become rainfast.

    It is recommended that you wait until the temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit to apply Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer. Do not apply when temperatures are over 90 degrees F.

    Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is not labeled for goosegrass. Tenacity Herbicide would be a great option for eradicating goosegrass. Be sure to check the label for turf tolerance.

    I sprayed with a 30 gallon tank sprayer. Mixture 2.5 ounce per gallon to kill dandelion on lawn turf. Then it rained heavily. Can I respray twice in one week?

    There is a minimum of 30 days between applications of Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer and you are limited to 2 applications per year per the product label.

    Do I need to postpone an application of Hi-Yield 2, 4-D due to wind?
    How long can I keep my Hi-Yield 2,4-d & water mixture in sprayer? Wind picked up after I had already mixed to spay, will the mixture still be usable after sitting in my 4 gal sprayer for a day?

    Once Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is mixed with water, it can remain in the tank for up to 24 hours. If it stays in the sprayer longer than that, it looses it's efficacy because the water will break it down eventually. Also, it should not be used if winds exceed 15 mph.

    Use of Hi-Yield 2,4-D
    Desire: 1. To spray around shrubs. 2. Kill poison ivy n flower bed by painting leaf with brush. 3. To kill weeds under large trees.4. To kill wild grape vines. I've just heard of your product and I am excited to use it! I've adapted a cylindrical device at the end of my sprayers, to limit coverage of spray pattern n stop drift. Will spray penetrate the ground around shrubs and harm shrubs? How long does your weed killer last? Do you have a weed killer and pre-emergent combo spray? If not, do know of one? Thank you.

    Hi-Yield 2, 4D Selective Weed Killer is labeled for use on lawns, around ponds, drainage ditchbanks, pastures and rangelands. It should not be used on shrubs. It should not penetrate the ground and kill the shrubs. It should last for the entire season but if not, another application can be made after 30 days.

    For a pre-emergence and post-emergent combination, we would recommend using Dimension 2EW. You will use .33 - .73 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
