While the product label for Hi-Yield 2,4-D selective Weed Killer states that St Augustinegrass may be injured by sprays, it is not really labeled to be used for controlling it.
When using Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer for chickweed you would mix it at 3 - 4 oz in 1 to 3 gallons of water per 1000 sq. ft. The manufacturer advises to wait a minimum of 30 days after application before allowing animals to graze on the treated area. It they are non-grazing, they would need to be out of the area while spraying and until the product dries completely.
Herbicides such as Hi-Yield 2,4-D that will kill most broadleaf weeds will also kill existing clover. We would recommend just spot treating the areas with undesirable plants and then reseeding with your clover as needed.
