    Q
Will Atrazine kill the following weeds in centipede?
Spurge, crabgrass, dollar, chickweed, Johnson grass, wood sorrel, poa annau. What other types of weeds are common in centipede? When is the best time for as weather and year to spray in south Mississippi?
    A

Yes, you can use Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer for all the weeds you listed except for Johnsongrass. Atrazine will suppress crabgrass, but it may not competely control it. The best time to treat for post-emergent control is when the weeds are young and actively growing, usually when temperatures are between about 55 and 85 degrees. Please refer to the product label for a complete list of plants controlled and for full application directions. You could use Certainty Herbicide to help control johnsongrass in Centipede turf.

    Q
What's best to kill crabgrass in centipede?
    A

As you probably know, Centipedegrass is a very sensitive species of turf so many products that eliminate the crabgrass and other weeds can also cause damage to your lawn. Hi Yield Atrazine is safe to be used on Centipede and it will suppress Crabgrass but may not completely eliminate it. It will also control a large variety of other broadleaf weeds. Tenacity is a great pre- and post-emergent herbicide that will control crabgrass along with many other types of weeds without harming your centipede lawn. Make sure to read the Tenacity label very carefully and mix exactly what is recommended as this is a strong product and mis-using it can cause temporary turf injury. When applying Tenacity it is highly recommended to use a temporary turf colorant like Turf Mark Blue to allow you to see where you are spraying. Overlapping your application of Tenacity can cause temporary whitening of the lawn as well, but the color will return in 3-4 weeks at most. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
What can remedy the effects of Hi-Yield Atrazine once it has been applied to grasses other than Centipede or St Augustine?
Lawn appears dead in spots Want to reseed as soon as possible
    A

Unfortunately, there is little that can be done to counteract the effects once Hi-Yield Atrazine has been applied to a grass species other than Centipede or St. Augustine grass.  You can replant, but the product label states that if you are replanting with anything other than Centipede or St. Augustine, the minimum wait time for replanting is 12 months.  You may wish to contact the manufacturer directly to see if they have any other recommendations.  You can reach VPG/Hi-Yield by calling 855-270-4776.

  • Asked by John from Tampa
    10/08/2017
    Q
What is the safe application temperature using Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer for st Augustine?
I notice that you are not supposed to use on St Augustine when temps are above 85 deg. I also noticed that you recommended a July application to someone in central Florida. I find this confusing. How long after application must the temp stay below 85 after application to not damage st Augustine grass?
    A

Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer can be applied early in the morning before temperatures reach 90 degrees if it's expected to get this hot on the day of application.  You just do not want to apply during the time of high temperature because your desirable turfgrass is under more stress in high heat.

    A

Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer should be used within 24 hours of mixing with water.  Atrazine is not labeled to control basket grass. It would be best to spot treat with a glyphosate based product and resod the areas.
