Thank you for your interest with Do My Own.com, we are happy to assist you today!

The Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is a granular product. The amount of Hi Yield Weed & Grass Stopper with Dimension will vary depending on what weeds you are targeting and the type of grass in your lawn.  In general, for cool-season grasses, you will use 2.4 - 9.2 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft., and for warm-season grasses you will use 3.5 - 9.2 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.  Please consult the product label for the exact rates for your needs.

We hope this information helps. Please let us know if you need anything else. Have a great day, stay safe!

  • Asked by Glenn from Englewood, Fl

    Q
Will Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide kill Sandburs in Dutch White Clover?
We had a lot cleared and planted 5 lbs of clover seed. As the clover has come on we also have what we think is grass but now know it is sand burrs.
    A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension will not kill any existing weeds. It is only going to prevent seed germination of listed weeds. Since this product is not labeled as safe to use on clover, we would not recommend applying this in your clover plots. You will likely just need to spot treat the undesirable plants with a non-selective herbicide that is safe for grazing areas, such as Ranger Pro Herbicide.

    Q
Can I apply Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide to get rid of crabgrass without ruining my new Bermuda?
Crabgrass growing through my new Bermuda grass.
    A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper can be used on established Bermuda grass. If you installed Bermuda grass in early November, the grass needs to be fully rooted and have been mowed at least twice before you use any herbicides on it. Keep in mind that this product is a pre-emergent. It can provide some early post-emergent control of crabgrass only on established turf areas. Feel free to contact us at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p if you need assistance finding a product for your needs.

  • Asked by Dave from Trophy Club, Tx
    03/12/2021
    Q
What setting in a Scotts Standard Broadcast Spreader for applying Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide?
    A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide label does not list your spreader setting. If you need to use 3lbs of product per 1,00 sq. ft. you would add 3 lb. of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft. area (1,000 sq. ft.).  If you have product left, your setting is too low.  If you run out of product, your setting is too high.  Typically if you walk at a normal pace and set the spreader at the middle setting, that is usually the right amount per 1000 square feet.  We recommend to apply just before soil temps reach 55 degrees.

  • Asked by Texas from San Antonio, Texas

    Q
When is the best time to apply Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide in South Texas for stickerburs that come up in mid February and March?
    A

"Sticky weed" or "stickers" is a term used to describe about 7 different plant/weed species that have some sort of sticky sharp seed or part to the plant. In order for us to know which one you have (the treatment options for each are different, and not all are able to be prevented) we would need to know specifically which one you have. You can either take one to two up close and well focused photos of the weeds to email back to us to try and ID, or you can use this link to contact your local cooperative extension office and master gardener in your county with assistance on the specific weed in your yard.

    Q
Can Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide be used to prevent poa annua in hybrid bermudagrass lawns in Southern California?
    A

Hi Yield Weed & Grass Stopper with Dimension is labeled for pre emergent control of many common weeds including poa annua (annual bluegrass). For best results, it is recommended to apply pre emergents in late fall and early spring. Fall applications should be applied when soil temperatures are below 70 degrees but before the first frost of the season. Spring applications should be applied as the weather warms but before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees.

View our Warm Season Lawn Care Calendar or contact your County Cooperative Extension Office for specific timing recomendations in your area.

    Q
Can Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide be used in ground cover like purple winter creeper or mondo grass.
    A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is labeled to be used over mondo grass but does not list purple wintercreeper as tolerant.

Pendulum 2G Granules would be a better option for pre emergent control of listed weeds in mondograss and wintercreeper as they are both listed tolerant ornamentals per the product label.

  • Asked by Nate from Minneapolis, Mn

    Q
How do you calculate a split application of Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide? Do I divide the maximum rate of 9.2lbs per 1000 in half or the 3.2lbs per 1000 sq ft in half?
Split application will be 4-5 weeks apart.
    A

For split applications applying Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide, divide the listed rate of 9.2lbs per 1000 sq ft in 2 which would be 4.6lbs per 1000 sq ft. Make the 2nd application 5 to 10 weeks after the intitial application. Do not exceed more than 27.6lbs per 1000 sq ft per year.

  • Asked by Brian from Greenville, Sc
    08/28/2021
    Q
When is the best time to apply Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide in South Carolina? Is there a benefit to doing both a spring and fall application?
    A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide can be used in the fall and/or in the spring, it all depends on what you are targeting, different weeds germinate at different times of the year so when you use it is based on that and your target weeds. Under the Application Timing Section of the product label, there is information for both Spring and Fall applications.

Spring Applications will target spring/summer weeds such as crabgrass, nutsedge, etc and should be applied when soil temps are just under 55 degrees.

Fall applications will target winter weeds such as clover, chickweed, poa annua(annual bluegrass) and should be applied once soil temps fall below 70 degrees and continue to drop.

Please view our Lawn Care Guides to view helpful information on common weeds and our Warm Season and Cool Season Lawn Care Schedule for general timing recommendations based on turfgrass type.

For the most accurate timing in your area, contact the Master Gardener with your County Extension Office as they can provide the best recommendation on when to apply spring and fall pre emergents.

  • Asked by Richard from Normandy Park, Wa

    Q
Can I use both pendimethalin and dithiopyr in the same year?
I applied Scott's Halts Crabgrass And Grassy Weed Preventer (active ingredient Pendimethalin) at the end of August to control poa annua. Soil temperatures dropped below 70 degrees early this year so I put it down sooner than hoped. I would like to apply a second application of Pendimethalin in 6-8 weeks to be sure I have good control over the fall and winter. The label says to apply no more than two times per year but I would like to apply a pre-emergent in the spring as well. Can I apply this product containing dithiopyr next spring without causing a problem? Also, assuming that's okay, would it be better to apply dithiopyr this fall or next spring?
    A

Yes, If you have used a pre-emergent with pendimethalin in the fall you can use a pre-emergent with dithiopyr like Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide in the spring to prevent resistance buildup.

    Q
When should Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide be applied in Central California?
When are the optimum times to apply this product to Fescue blend lawns in San Joaquin Valley of California? Thank you!
    A
Preemergents such as Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide are applied in the fall and/or spring. We suggest contacting your county extension office for specific timing in your area.

The general rule for spring is to apply your pre-emergent herbicide treatment after the ground has thawed from the winter but before the temperature of your soil reaches 55 degrees, as that is when crabgrass begins to germinate. Other weeds will germinate when the soil temperature is between 55 and 65 degrees. You can use a soil thermometer to determine the temperature of your lawn/area. You will want to measure the temperature of the soil a few inches below ground.

The ideal time to apply a fall pre-emergent herbicide to your yard is between August and November when the soil temperature is below 70 degrees and dropping.
