How close is too close for placing the Advance Termite Bait Stations?

We hired a company to treat active subterranean termites found under the siding of our house. They installed what appears to be Advance Termite Bait Stations every 4 feet along the foundation. It has been a full year and they are still reporting activity in the stations. We are considering cancelling our contract with the company and taking this on for ourselves using the same system and following your guidelines. Should we remove some of the bait stations so they are spaced farther apart?

Answer:

Termite bait stations such as the Advance Termite Bait Stations technically could be installed as close together as you would like. However, standard application is about every 10-12 feet, and 4-6 feet from the foundation outside the dripline of the roof.
Since bait stations are considered prevention, if there were live termites found under the siding, then that should have been treated directly with a termiticide liquid or foam as well. Stations can be checked more often so that bait is replaced as often as needed to maintain a fresh supply as long as there are termites found in that area.
