Vern from Bend, Or writes

How do drain flies get past the traps in showers and sinks?

Can they swim, hold breath etc? Mine seem to be coming from shower drain which has no shut off and come out every 2 weeks but how do they come thru the water. My wife thinks these are termites.

Answer:

Drain Flies need moisture to survive so you might notice the larva "swimming". Adults find drains a great place for their breeding areas. It is important to have a pest id to confirm you are dealing with the correct pest for treatment. Can you tell us what traps you are currently using so that we can provide you with more details. Thank you! You are welcome to submit a clear picture to support@domyown.com to determine the insect also.
