    Q
How much solution of Ike' Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is added per gallon of water?
    A

How much water you will use to apply a pre-emergent herbicide like kes Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is not as important as using the correct amount of herbicide per 1000 sq/ft per the product label. This is going to be watered into the soil to be activated as well. Depending on your turf type and instructions on the Product Label, you can use 1.1 to 1.6 fl oz per 1000 sq ft you are treating for most applications.

    Q
Can Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer be applied in the summer?
    A

Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is best applied by itself in early spring and late fall to prevent weeds from germinating but can also be tank mixed with post emergent herbicides when weeds are actively growing. Per the product label, the efficacy of Sandbur & Crabgrass Preventer will be best if the application is followed by one-half inch of rainfall or its equivalent in sprinkler irrigation. If Sandbur & Crabgrass Preventer is not activated by rainfall or irrigation within 30 days, weed control may be erratic.

    Q
Can you apply Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass preventer when temp is above 80F?
And what is mixture for 25 gal tank?
    A

How much water you will use to apply a pre-emergent herbicide like this one is not as important as using the correct amount of herbicide. The water is acting as the carrier. • Asked by Janis from North Port

    Q
Can Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer be used to control Florida Pusley in a Southwest Florida possibly bahiagrass or bermudagrass lawn?
    A

Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is labeled for warm season turfgrasses such as bahiagrass and bermudagrass for pre emergent control of Floria Pusley and other listed weeds. Being a pre emergent, this product will not control weeds once they are actively growing and should be applied in early spring and late fall for best results.

For post emergent control of actively growing Florida Pusley and other broadleaf weeds, Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone would be recommended and safe for bahia and bermuda.

  • Asked by Ed from Myrtle Beach, Sc
    09/21/2021
    Q
When is the best time to apply Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer?
    A

Preemergents such as Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer are applied in the fall and spring. We suggest contacting your county extension office for specific timing in your area.

The general rule for spring is to apply your pre-emergent herbicide treatment after the ground has thawed from the winter but before the temperature of your soil reaches 55 degrees, as that is when crabgrass begins to germinate. Other weeds will germinate when the soil temperature is between 55 and 65 degrees. You can use a soil thermometer to determine the temperature of your lawn/area. You will want to measure the temperature of the soil a few inches below ground.

The ideal time to apply a fall pre-emergent herbicide to your yard is between August and November when the soil temperature is below 70 degrees and dropping.

    Q
Can Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer be applied using an Ortho Hose End Sprayer?
    A

Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is applied at the rate of 1.1-1.6 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft for most grass species. It is not suggested to apply with a hose end applicator as volumes of water will differ. We recommend a hand pump or backpack sprayer for application. Please check out our calibration video here for tips.

  • Asked by Carol from Luverne
    09/05/2021
    Q
Is Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer effective as a fall application to control weeds for the following spring/summer season?
    A

A fall application of Ike's Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is recommended to help prevent the germination of winter weeds and to get an early start on preventing weeds for spring. Fall pre emergent applications will not stop weeds from germinating all spring and into summer therefore you would need to apply a pre emergent again in early spring when soil temps are just under 55 degrees to best prevent spring/summer weeds.
