Daniel from Houston, Tx writes

Is it okay to apply Hi Yield Soil Sulfur in the late winter?

My soilkit.com report indicated I need to apply this product to lower the PH of my yard. The report does not say when I should apply it, nor does the label on the Hi-Yield Soil Sulfur package indicate the best time to apply. Spring is just around the corner here in Houston, so I thought it would be good to apply it now, but I don't want to harm my lawn by applying it too early. Thank you in advance for your time.

Answer:

You can apply a soil amendment such as Hi-Yield Soil Sulfur in early Spring before you would need fertilizer. Be sure there is no snow or ice and the ground is not frozen when you want to apply your amendments. Lowering the pH of your soil can be a slow process, so you will want to continue soil testing at least once a year (possibly more often in warmer areas) for best results.
