Adam from St. Louis writes

Is Pennington 22-0-11 50% Uflexx 3% Turf Fertilizer an acceptable fertilizer for late spring applications on cool season grass?

The local extension advises 1lb per 1000sf. I saw this is 4lb per 1000 sf. At most, will I only have to mow more often? I have already put down an early spring application (4 weeks ago) of Scotts Weed and Feed. I don't want to burn my lawn.

Answer:

You can use the Pennington 22-0-11 50% Uflexx 3% Turf Fertilizer any time of year on any type of turf. Whether your yard needs that particular combo of NPK or not is what you would need to decide from your soil analysis if you are trying to only give your lawn the nutrients its specifically needing or lacking. This fertilizer in particular is geared towards high nitrogen applications, if your lawn doesn’t need a high nitrogen treatment then you may want to use it at lower rates or go with a lower nitrogen formulated fertiizer.
