Glenn from Toronto, Ontario writes

Is the sanding dust, sawdust, and planing shavings from lumber treated with Tim-Bor harmful to my health?

Are there any precautions that need to be taken or personal protection equipment required when working with lumber treated with Tim-Bor regarding sanding dust, sawdust, etc.?

Answer:

If you are working with wood that has been treated with Timbor, you would use the same PPE that you would need for sanding and other woodworking. Ideally, you would treat lumber with Timbor or another borate wood treatment after final cutting has been done for best protection: Timbor is absorbed about 1/4 inch into the wood where it is applied.
