William from Charlotte, Nc writes

Is there a pre-emergent that can be put down to prevent mainly crabgrass without harming creeping raspberry groundcover, trees, and shrubs?

I have a hill that has Creeping Raspberry as a ground cover. There are also trees and shrubs.

Answer:

We have many pre-emergent herbicides that can be used around a variety of groundcovers and other desirable established ornamental trees and shrubs. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find one that lists creeping raspberry, specifically, as a tested ornamental plant. Our most popular pre-emergents for crabgrass and other weeds around established ornamentals are Snapshot granules and Dimension 2EW. We recommend testing a small area for tolerance before treating a large area of plants that are not listed on the label. You may also consider contacting a Master Gardener in your area for their recommendations on what may have been used around that plant before.
