Daniel from North Andover writes

I just applied my fall Tenacity /Quinclorac herbicide for northeast cold grass treatment for crab grass, clover, and other broadleaf weeds. How soon after the Tenacity/Quinclorac application could I apply Hydretain ES Plus Granules? How much water is needed to water the granules in and what setting should be used for a Scotts Edgeguard Mini Broadcast spreader?

Answer:

There should be no issues applying Tenacity around the same time as a fertilizer as long the label on the fertilizer/soil amendment such as Hydretain ES Plus Granular OC does not state that it cannot be used with herbicides.

Unfortunately we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo and the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on how to accomplish this here.

For pre-emergent applications, you will need to irrigate the area with 0.15 inches of water if there has not been this amount of rainfall within 10 days of application
