I just received my shipment of rodenticide for chipmunks.

How long does it remain potent? I have a dog on a leash currently because of leg surgery, but the dog will eventually have the run of the back yard again in 2 months. Actually, the label of this rodenticide scares me. Will the dog be safe?

Answer:

Rodenticides are safe to use around pets as long as you use them correctly.  Bait can remain potent for a long time, sometimes up to a year.  This is why you should place the bait in tamper resistant bait stations, which let the rodents and chipmunks in the station and keeps the bait secure, but will not let your dog get to the bait.  You definitely do not want to let the dog roam around the yard with rodent bait sitting out.
