May I have some information on mouse control in a cabin?

We have a cabin that we visit once a month or less. We have most stuff sealed in containers but almost always find mouse droppings in the cupboards and around the stove. We are now using repellent inside with bait stations outside. Bear and possums raid the bait stations so they don't work. The repellent seemed to work until this trip up. There were more mouse droppings! Tried bait inside, but the dead mice would get into the walls and that wasn't very pleasant. Do you have any Ideas to help? Thanks.

Answer:

For rodents inside it is best to use snap traps and glueboards so you can control where they are going to die. You should also seal up all cracks and crevices where rodents may be able to enter the structure. Tamper-resistant bait stations with a rodenticide outside would also help if they are coming and going. You may try using a bait station that is weighted down with concrete such as the Aegis-RP Anchor Bait Station. The concrete anchor weighing it down will make it harder for the bears to gain access to the rodenticide. Another option is to stake down your bait stations with a product such as the JT Eaton Earth Anchor Bait Station Securing Device.
