    Other types of spreaders
I have a Scotts Speedy Green spreader. Even though it's actually not shown on the label, what if I used it for this product?
    A
It would be perfectly fine for you to use your Scott's Speedy Green Spreader even though it is not specifically listed on the Merit Granules product label. However, you will need to contact Scott's directly for help with calibration and recommended settings for your specific application.

  • Asked by Roberta from Darien ,il

    Q
timing of application for merit in dupage co.il?
I have a 57x53 ft. back yard ,front is about the same and have a terrible problem with grubs. I have used the bayer 24 hour kill in may and imacloprid in fall and still have a problem .I need to kill the ones that are hibernating from last fall and then the ones after egglay in august. I will be buying a bag of Merit but how long is the shelf life. and can I store it in the garage,I know to keep it clean and dry but will the cold affect it?
    A
Normally grubs are most active between may and june and this is the most common time that products like the Merit are applied. You want to store it in a cool dry, temperature stable place and will normally keep for at least 3 years.

  • Asked by Roberta from Darien Il
    05/24/2014
    Q
Why don't you have the Merit in a smaller size like 5000 sq ft. coverage, that would last me 2 yr
    It is a wonderful product!
    A
We apologize but the manufacturer of Merit Granules - 30 lb. bag just does not have it in a smaller bag.  We do however have the Hi-Yield Grub Free Zone III which comes in a smaller bag but has the same active ingredient.

  • Asked by Gary from Paw Paw
    05/25/2016
    Q
When do I apply Merit 0.5 G for grubs in turfgrass in southwestern Michigan?
    A

Since Merit Insecticide Granules is a systemic insecticide, you want to apply it several weeks before egg match of the target pest. Usually this application needs to be made in late Spring, usually sometime between May and late June. We recommend contacting your local Cooperative Extension for the best recommendation on application timing for your target pest in your area.

Will Talstar P hurt beneficial microbes in the soil?
I just resoded my yard and amended beneficials to the soil to help with rooting but I'm having problems with grub worms and was recommended this product.

  • Asked by Justin from Pulaski, Wisconsin
    04/26/2018
    Q
Can I apply Merit Granules along with a Weed and Feed product?
I generally apply a crabgrass preventer/weed and feed (26-0-3) product early spring, which lines up with the timing of my hatch and when I will need to apply the Merit Granules. Am I able to apply them the same day (not mixing) or is there a wait period? I will be aerating the lawn and would like to lay the products immediately after, as well as be able to water both products in at the same time.
    A

Yes, you can apply Merit Granules along with a weed-and-feed product, as long as the weed-and-feed label does not prohibit you from doing so, and as long as the watering in instructions are the same as what is on the Merit product label.

  • Asked by Marc from Tampa, Fl
    06/03/2019
    Q
What is your recommendation for killing spider mites and mealybugs? Merit 0.5 G?
    In Tampa, Fl
    A

Merit G is not labeled for spider mites nor mealy bugs so would not be recommended.  For active infestations on non edibles you can use something like Talstar P for both pests.  We do recommend avoiding the blooms while spraying to prevent harm to beneficial insects that could be pollinating.

  • Asked by Kim from Klamath Falls, Oregon
    07/11/2021
    Q
Will Merit 0.5 G Insecticide Granules kill grubs immediately?
My yard is over run and dying every minute can I apply now to stop them and kill them now
    A

Merit 0.5 G Insecticide Granules is not a contact kill for mature grubs. Per label this product needs to be applied prior to the egg hatch for optimum control.  For actively feeding grubs you would use something like Dylox for contact killing.

    Q
Why should Merit be applied before grub eggs hatch?
If Merit works on grub worms, why would you apply it before they even hatch?
    A
Merit Granule is always our top recommendation for grub control. For best results, make application prior to egg hatch. To find out when grub egg hatch normally occurs in your area you should contact your local cooperative extension office.
