  • Asked by Wayne from Angleton, Tx

    Q
Can Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide be used to treat St. Augustine grass ?
Will this product work to treat lawn fungus like brown patch or take all patch ?
    A

Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide is only labeled to control Pythium in turfgrass so would not be recommended for brown patch or take all.

We would recommend our Eagle 20 EW Fungicide. It is labeled for Take-All Patch in your turf, and you would use 2.4 ounces per 1000 sq/ft in no less than 2 gallons of water. Label states for treatment of Take-All Patch: To reduce the severity, make 1 to 2 fall applications in September and October or when night temperatures drop to 55°F, and 1 to 2 spring applications in April and May depending upon local recommendations. You can see the full product label here.

  • Asked by Bob from League City

    Q
Will Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide work on blackberries which have orange felt?
    A

The Monterey Garden Phos is not labeled for anything other than root rot on blackberries as this is meant to work as a systemic product only on those diseases that can be controlled by a systemic. Other diseases like Orange Felt typically would need a foliar application of some sort to control it.

According to an article and study by UGA regarding chemical control of Orange Felt:

Copper sprays should also help to prevent spread. Many copper products are registered for control of a multitude of blackberry diseases, using relatively high rates for late dormant and fall applications and lower rates for times in which succulent tissue is present (read all labels for specific directions).

Though orange felt may not be specifically listed on the label, orange felt may also be suppressed when applying copper for these other diseases. The currently labeled use times for most copper materials may not be sufficient to cover all infection periods

You can see the full article on the disease control methods here:http://extension.uga.edu/publications/detail.html?number=C892

And a copper fungicide by Monterey we carry that may work here: https://www.domyown.com/monterey-liquicop-p-2844.html

    Q
Does Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide help to prevent cotton root rot?
A Lacebark Elm got the Cotton Root Rot as determined by the one of the Arborist. I started seeing few white round funny looking patches on the surface of the yard. Eventually, the white patches got expanded over the yard. Yes, The tree got cut as flushed to the ground level. I want to make sure that the other trees as 1 oak, 2 pear trees will be ok. I know it may be too much to ask....but, landscapers as the local arborists, who came, were just focusing on the tree needed to be cut. If you can give me your opinion would be great.
    A

We apologize, but we are not aware of any chemical sprays that will control cotton root rot. You can contact your local cooperative extension office Master Gardener for tips on that specific area including possibly a specific fertilizer to minimize the spread.

  • Asked by Marla from Alameda, Ca

    Q
Is Monterey Garden Phos effective in fighting Armillaria mellea?
The label of this product does not include Armillaria in its list of fungi, but is there any anecdotal evidence of successful off-label usage to rid garden soil of the pathogen in buried rhizomorphs or fragments of infected root material?
    A

Monterey Garden Phos is a fungicide for listed soil-borne and air-borne pathogens, and it will not treat Armillaria mellea/honey mushroom or other fungi similar to that. Since there are no known treatments for this fungus, it is best to plant trees that are known to be resistant to it. This article has more details.

  • Asked by L from Lynchburg, Va

    Q
What is the lowest temperature that Monterey Garden Phos can be used to treat boxwood blight?
    A

Per the product label, make applications of Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide before disease development and in conjunction with good cultural management practices. Use higher rate of application when disease pressure is severe.  Do not apply to plants that are in a state of dormancy.  There is a great article here that suggests it should be applied above 60 degrees and when rain is expected.

  • Asked by Dom from White Plains, Ny

    Q
Will Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide treat botrytis on oriental lilies? Drench or spray, and at what concentration?
Will Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide treat Botrytis on oriental lilies? Drench or spray, and at what concentration? Thanks
    A

Monterey Garden Phos Systemic Fungicide is not labeled for botrytis.  Ferti-Lome Triple Action is labeled to be used for it.  It is used at a rate of 1 oz in 1 gallon of water, spray until foliage is wet but not dripping. As a preventative, apply Ferti-Lome Triple Action on a 7 to 14 day schedule until the potential for disease development is no longer present. To control disease already present, apply this product on a 7 day schedule until disease pressure is eliminated. Then continue spraying on a 14 day schedule to prevent the disease from reoccurring.

  • Asked by Richard from Mckinleyville, Ca

    Q
How does the product actually treat the fungus?
I understand Agrifos is a phosphorus acid derived from potassium, basically super hydrogen peroxide H3PO2or 3 or 4, with possibly a K attached, but how is this affecting the fungi?? Is the product actually oxygenating the fungi as a normal peroxide would, and if so why does it require such small amounts??
    A
For any specific questions regarding how Monterey Agri-Fos Systemic Fungicide works, we would recommend speaking directly to the manufacturer. Their phone number is 559-499-2100.
