    Q
    Spurge power and Prodiamine 65WG
Can I add spurge power now and add the Prodiamine weeks late ?
    A

Timing is very important when applying pre emergent products such as Prodiamine 65 WDG so you want to be sure to apply before the weeds germinate. For the best timing on when to apply both products in your specific region, we would recommend contacting your Master Gardener at your local cooperative extension office.

    Q
Should Monterey Spurge Power be used to treat spurge in my bermuda lawn as a spot spray or broadcast application over the entire lawn?
It is November and the bermuda is still green in San Diego, can this still be used and should I use it a the lower concentration rate.
    A

Monterey Spurge Power can be used as a spot spray or broadcast application to treat spurge in bermuda lawns. Per the product label, for warm season turfgrasses actively growing the lower rates are recommended. When warm season turfgrass is completely dormant, the higher rates can be used. Avoid applications to warm season lawn during transition from dormancy to green-up or green-up to dormancy

    Q
When is the best time to apply Monterey Spurge Power?
I have Bermuda will it make the grass brown as it kill spurge?
    A

Monterey Spurge Power should be applied when the targeted weed is young and actively growing (and temperatures are above 55 degrees). Ester formulations work better in the cooler temperatures. For Bermuda, apply at the rate of 1.0 to 1.25 fl. oz. in 2 gallons to 5 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.  When treating warm season lawn that is completely dormant, the higher rates may be used. When treating warm season lawn that is actively growing, use a lower rate. Avoid applications to warm season lawn during transition from dormancy to green-up or green-up to dormancy.

    Q
Will Monterey Spurge Power kill Iris that it has invaded?
    A

Monterey Spurge Power is used only as directed to turf lawns. Per the Monterey Spurge Power label: Avoid drift of spray mist to vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and other desirable plants.  It could injure iris if contact is made but not completely kill it.

If you are looking to get rid of wild Iris, we recommend Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide on listed turfs.
The usage rates for Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide will vary depending on what type(s) of weeds you are treating for, what type of grass you have, whether you will be spot treating or broadcast spraying, and how much area you need to cover.  Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions.

    04/17/2021
    Q
How much water is needed to mix with the recommended 1.0 to 1.25 fl oz of Monterey Spurge Power to treat for wild violets? The 2 to 5 gallons of water suggested is a broad range. I am using a 5 gallon backpack sprayer.
    A

When treating warm season lawn that is completely dormant, the higher rates may be used. When treating warm season lawn that is actively growing, use a lower rate. Avoid applications to warm season lawn during transition from dormancy to green-up or green-up to dormancy.

Apply Monterey Spurge Power at the rate of 1.0 to 1.25 fl. oz. in 2 gallons to 5 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. to control weeds growing in lawn planted to Bluegrass, Fescue, Rye, Bent (excluding golf greens and tees), Bahia, Bermuda, and Zoysia. The actual amount of water you use does not matter, as water is only the carrier. To simplify this, you can use 1.0-1.25 fl oz of Sporge Power in 5 gallons of water to cover 1,000 sq ft.

  • Asked by Gary from Dallas, Tx
    01/17/2021
    Q
Which pre-emergent to go along with Monterey Spurge Power for a North TX based Bermuda lawn?
Oxalis (yellow) and Spurge are the problem weeds in my Bermuda lawn. I understand Monterey Spurge Power would work as a good potential post-emergent? But which pre-emergent should I go with to control oxalis and spurge.
    A
Dimension 2EW or any other product that contains Dithiopyr is great to use in the spring and will prevent both oxalis and spurge when used as directed on the label and application timed to before they germinate.
You may contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region.
