    Q
How long do I have to wait after applying Negate 37WG Herbicide to mow the lawn?
I have dormant Bermuda and Zoysia. When they are both dormant, how long do I have to wait to apply Negate? Would it make a difference when they are not dormant?
    A

We recommend waiting a few days after application before mowing. You can use Negate 37WG  to either dormant grass or when the grass is fully green, but you do not want to apply a post-emergent like this while the grass is in transition, such as during Spring green-up.

  • Asked by Darrell from Box Springs, Ga

    Q
Couldn't you use 1/4 bottle of Negate 37WG Herbicide in 1/4 gallon of water which would provide the same ratio in which to pull the 3 oz from?
    A

With Negate 37WG, it is necessary to mix the entire contents of the bottle into one gallon of water to create the correct suspended concentrate of the two active ingredients.  You will then take 3 ounces from that gallon of mixed solution and mix that into one gallon of water for spot treatments.  The original gallon you mixed the entire bottle into will be good for about a month. This product is a wettable granule formulation with 2 active ingredients, and since the granules of both active ingredients are in the concentrate, you would not be able to mix a small amount less than the 1.5 oz bottle. If you are using this product over less than 1 Acre, then you need to dilute the entire 1.5 oz bottle in 1 gallon of water. You will then take 3 ounces from that gallon of mixed solution and mix that into one gallon of water for spot treatments.

    Q
Can I use a mixed gallon of Negate 37WG Herbicide that has been sitting for a few months?
I mixed the entire contents of the bottle into one gallon of water to create the correct suspended concentrate( as per instructions). I did this about 10 months ago. I followed the instructions and did my spot treatments about 10 months ago. I read that after 4 weeks the mixture is not effective. Is this true? The concentrate mixture that I made has been sitting in a mix bottle in my garage( for 10 months). Can I use this mixture or is it useless?
    A

Any mixed solution of Negate 37WG Herbicide or any herbicide, insecticide or fungicide should be used with 24 hours as the active ingredient will beging to break down when suspended in water. When stored in it’s original container (concentrate) the shelf life is 3-5 years.

  • Asked by Jarrod from Baton Rouge, La

    Q
Is it to late to use Negate in March?
South Louisiana, Bermuda really starting to green up but POA Annua really hit hard this year, looking for something I can spot treat with right now.
    A

You can use Negate 37WG on your bermuda lawn to control poa annua (annual bluegrass). You can apply to either dormant grass or when the grass is fully green, but you do not want to apply a post-emergent like this while the grass is in transition, such as during Spring green-up.
Per the new supplemental label, for poa annua, you would use 1.5 oz per Acre. If you are treating an area smaller than 1 Acre, then the manufacturer recommends diluting the entire 1.5 oz bottle in a gallon of water first (not in your sprayer but in a separate container) since there are different sized prills in the concentrate. You would then use 3 oz of your mixed solution in at least 1 gallon of water per 1000 square feet. The remaining initial solution can be stored for 2-4 weeks, just be sure you agitate the solution before mixing and re-applying. You can reapply on your dormant turf after 4 weeks if the target weeds are still present.
Be sure that you use a dedicated sprayer to apply this product or that you clean thoroughly the entire spray equipment before using other products in it. Please refer to the label for complete instructions and make sure this product is labeled for use with your specific grass type.

    Q
Can I use Negate 37WG be used to spot treat poa Trivialis in fescue?
    A

Negate 37WG cannot be used on fescue.  Since Poa Trivialis and Fescue are both cool season grasses, there is not a selective herbicide that would kill the poa trivialis without also killing the fescue. We suggest spot treating with a non-selective like Roundup and then reseeding after 2 weeks.

    Q
Can you blanket spray Negate 37WG Herbicide on bermuda?
Can you blanket spray this on bermuda? Directions mention spot spraying but nothing on broadcast spraying.
    A

Yes, Negate 37WG is labeled safe to use on Bermuda as long as you are following the instructions on the product label. Per the label in reference to bermuda and zoysia, "The effects of NEGATE 37WG on these turfgrasses during transition have not been fully evaluated." You may view more information on page 10 of the product label.

    Q
Mixing Negate 37WG Herbicide with other herbicides
Can you mix Negate with other herbicides for tank sprayer applications? The bottle I have says okay for residential lawns. Are there different formulas of Negate?
    A

Negate 37WG will need to be applied with a non-ionic surfactant. Also, Negate 37WG needs to be mixed first into a gallon of water if you're not going to treat an acre with the 1.5 oz bottle. As the user, you will need to review the product labels to be sure the one you want to mix with Negate 37WG can be tank mixed with other herbicides. It is recommended to do a small jar test mix first to make sure both products are compatible and follow the most restrictive label.

    Q
Can you please clarify acceptable temperatures (period of time) for applying Negate 37WG Herbicide to treat for poa annua? It gets cold near freezing at night but above 55 degrees during the day.
    A

Poa Annua (annual bluegrass) emergence most rapidly occurred when soil temperatures fall below 70°F with ample soil moisture (rainfall). Negate 37WG works best when applied when weeds are actively growing and temperatures are between 65 and 85 degrees outside. To get an accurate soil temperature reading, you can use a soil thermometer to take daily soil temperature readings. Another resource for homewowners is your local Master Gardener with the Cooperative Extension Office, they are with the University System and can advise on the best timing to treat Poa Annua in your countuy.

Please view our How to Treat for Poa Annua Guide for more information.
