    Q
Is Niban Granular Bait safe to use around small cats and dogs, will they be attracted to it?
    A
Niban Granular Bait is very safe to use around children and pets. The 95% other ingredients are just food products, which is the part of the bait that attracts the insects to where you apply the bait for them to eat.  The 5% boric acid is the only part of the bait that kills the insect.  It is only strong enough to kill a small insect.  When you broadcast Niban as directed, there is not enough of it in one place to attract a pet and should cause no problems.  Many pest control companies use Niban Bait as part of their natural pest control program because it is such a safe and easy to use product.

    Q
Is Niban Granular bait effective on fire ant hills?
    A
No, Niban Granular Bait is not labeled for use on fire ants.  For fire ants we would recommend a fire ant granule specific to fire ants.  Our most popular product is Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait

    Q
I've used Niban around the foundation where I've actually seen ant trails and they seem to not be interested.
Is there a better way of applying this material?
    A
Ants change their nutritional needs frequently. This means that one day they may only forage for proteins, like the Niban granules you put out and another day they may forage for carbohydrates like bait gels or liquids. We recommend leaving the granules in place and allow the ants to continue their natural foraging and in time they will eat the bait. It is important not to disturb the ant trails or nests while putting out the bait or the ants could ignore the bait. Do not sprinkle the bait onto mounds or into the middle of trails. Simply put the bait near where you see activity.

    Q
Is Niban Granular bait safe to use?
As a person who is chemically sensitive, I am considering using Niban Granular Bait (recommended by a pest control company). I know that boric acid is completely safe if used as recommended, but since it is only 5% of the product, I really need to know that the other 95% is safe.
    A

Your question and concerns are valid.  Niban Granular Bait is our most popular bait though because it is so safe.  The 95% other ingredients are just food products, which is the part of the bait that attracts the insects.  The 5% boric acid is the only part of the bait that kills the insect.  Many pest control companies use Niban Bait as part of their natural pest control program because it is such a safe and easy to use product.

    Q
    I made a mistake...
So my raised beds were getting overran with slugs. I sprinkled Niban granules inside my raised beds and then realized that goes against what the label says. I know... I should have read the label first. It's not on the actual plants just the dirt. Will this be ok or do I need to remove it so it's not released into the soil and into my vegetables?
    A

You would need to remove the NiBan Granular Bait 5 lbs. from the area before planting. The product is not labeled for edibles, so it cannot be applied around them. Only around the perimeter with no direct contact

    Q
How long after Niban has been applied can one plant crops in the same area?
Without really thinking about the plantings around our house, I agreed with a pest control company for treatment. But, we have elderberry bushes and perennial herbs in the same area. It is also where we plant our tomatoes. Now I'm worried I can't use any of these and am just wondering how long it would be. Must I wait till next year to eat the elderberries?
    A

Niban Granular Bait is not labeled to be used on fruit or vegetable plants. We would suggest contacting the manufacturer directly at (800) 264-0870 for more information.

    Q
Is this safe to use around chickens? And does it work on grasshoppers?
I have chickens that free range, but not enough to take care of the the large amount of grasshoppers. If I use this and grasshoppers ingest them, will it harm my chickens if they eat the grasshoppers. Or if they ingest the granules .
    A
Niban Granular Bait is not labeled for grasshoppers, and we are not aware of a bait for them. Instead, you may use a product such as Bifen IT. Bifen IT is labeled to be used in poultry houses and chicken pens, so it should not harm your chickens even if they eat the grass. The small amount of active ingredient is only enough to kill a small insect.  You must make sure your chickens are out of the area while you apply Bifen and then they can return to the area as soon as it is completely dry. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.
