According to the manufacturer's product brochure, the Ants No More Bait Station comes with an interior sliding bait stop, which sounds like the part you are inquiring about, that when in the locked position prevents spillage when the trap is inverted. You would not want to remove that part, as it would prevent the bait from coming out of the trap.
