Super Colony Control

I live in Southern California where we have massive super colonies of Argentine ants. You can't expect to kill them and be done. The super colonies extend all over the area so you can get rid of nests in your yard, but not your neighbors or beyond and those colonies will eventually come back - particularly if there are existing empty (ie killed) nests that are easy to establish. But you can definitely control the area around your home. If you haven't read a lot about Argentine (or pretty much any) ants, the first thing you need to realize is they have different diets. Workers need carbs. Queens and larvae need protein and fat. I've read that Argentine queens will also eat carbs, so that's a plus. The first thing you need to do when you see an ant trail is to follow it and try to get as close to the source of the nest as possible. Sometimes they'll go under a fence or out of an area you can treat, but at least get as close as you can to the nest. I like to put down some Advance 375 (protein base) and Maxforce (fat, protein, carb and sugar based - but large so my ants don't take much of it home) and let them take that for at least an hour. These are really targeted at queens and larvae so I like the workers to get as much home before I start on them. The Maxforce also kills roaches and a few other insects so it's a good plus. Again, get this stuff as close as you can to the nests. I put a good dose near the nests and then lesser amounts along the trail in case I missed any nests in my scouting. After an hour or so, put down long thin lines of Optigard. Long and thin allows way more ants to get to the bait. Don't put down big globs or you're just wasting the stuff in the middle. Again, a fair amount (3 or 4 inch lines a couple mm wide) near the nests and then then lesser amounts back along their trails. I have plastic plant boarders around the house and it works as a perfect place to put the gel. My ants don't really come out when it's sunny, so I apply early when shade still covers the areas they live. Also, the sprinklers will wash it all away so either turn them off for a day or apply on a day/night when you don't water for 24 hours. Regarding Optigard vs Advion - they are both really effective, but I find the ants like Optigard a little better (based on my own side by side tests) and it seems to have a better kill rate - I don't have to reapply as often. If you have super colonies, they will come back so just keep treating the exterior of your property as you see them and your house should stay ant free. Hope this helps.

Well - it's been a week now, and no ants!! Hopefully it stays that way! This ant bait worked right away! I put some in front of an ant, and it immediately went for it. In a half hour there were at least 6 ants going for it. In about a week and a half, I sucked up about 200 dead ants. I continued to see ants dying for the next 2 weeks after that. So it took about 3 1/2 weeks to kill them. This was in the middle of winter, so I am waiting to see if they come back in the spring. As for now, I'm very happy with the results!! This product works great. I like to use it indoors where I can't spray. It takes about 24-48 hours and all the ants are completely gone. I only had a problem when I first got the package. It had sat outside in my mailbox for a while in near freezing temperatures. The gel had seemed to separate from the liquid, making a messy application. I let it sit indoors for a couple days and then shook the applicator vigorously before I tried again and it worked fine. I would recommend this.

I bought this same item 5 years ago and has worked flawlessly. Been doing the usual summer battle of ants in the kitchen and was on my last tube. Ants would take to the bait' disappear for a day and then back. I figured it expired. I recently ordered a new box, set bait out, within minutes the bait was being swarmed over. They ate for several hours, retreated and haven't seen an ant on my counter now for weeks. This product works. I use by cutting a 2" piece of a plastic straw and inject the bait in the center. They go at it from both sides and Ian place the straw on a small piece of paper and put on the counter without worry of contamination. Once ants are finished just pickup paper and drop in trash.

Optigard Ant Gel Bait works

I still have 2 syringes left. I use it to wipe out infestations in my house. I have had times when these little black ants got into my car and on my boat. I just don't understand why there are so many of these ants everywhere around my house. Anyway, I apply a few inches of this stuff right along the ant tracks so they can easily find it. Says it needs a few days to work, but my experience is that the vast majority of ants are gone the next day, and all are gone in 2 days. It works so well, I bought my mom some for her house too. When I use up my current supply, I intent to buy more of this stuff.

We've used Optigard Ant Bait Gel, and the little trays that hold it, with fantastic success! I have am extremely sensitive to chemicals and was able to use this product in the cracks between the wood floor and shoe molding in my bedroom without any problems. And, it got rid of our tiny black ant problem once and for all! I love it. Last year, we used in the garage and it worked 100% then too. Be sure and read all the directions for how and where to apply and give the product a week or so to fully work (as instructed) and your ants should be gone! Ours were!

When we returned to our Florida condo this fall the Ghost ants had taken up residence in vast numbers.One dose of the Ant Gel and they were history.I put a small dose of the gel on wax paper in a few strategic spots in the kitchen and the ants showed up by the hundreds to feast on the product.The next morning there were a few deceased bodies around but the live ants were no longer to be found.Product worked as recommended and problem solved.

I love this ant bait. It is the best I have ever used. Personally, I don't want to kill the ants unless they come into my home. Yes, I could use it as a preventative and bait outside, but I don't. If they come in looking for food or water, then I put out a small line of bait and let them take it. An hour or two and they are gone never to return. No odor, no residue. I just mop or wipe down the area and it's all done. Works great in the garage, laundry room, bathroom, kitchen or wherever they come in.

While I had tried for the past year a bunch of insecticides, outside and inside (the walls) of the property, none had done the job like Optiguard ant bait gel. Easy to apply and fast to work. You can actually see ants be attracted and consuming it quickly. Not even three days and no signs of ants inside and minimal activity outside (I have a big back yard with lots of coconut trees). I am very happy with the result and hope to continue using it as much as I need it. Infestation eliminated!

This is the same brand name used by my exterminator but It wasn't as effective. It took care of about 90 percent of my ant problem but they are still around the kitchen. I have major ant issues every year but this year was the worst.

Used it for a few days on those tiny crazy ants. They were in several areas in a house we rented. I put fresh bait out each day for three days and BAM! DEAD! Haven't seen any more for several weeks. I'll put this as simply as I can: this stuff WORKS! Put down a dab at one or two places along the ant trail, and you'll notice they're immediately attracted to it. Then overnight they just disappear and don't come back, either along the original path or anywhere else. That's the difference. One can only assume it really does get taken back to the nest where it wipes out the population. I usually don't see any more ants for the rest of the season. Years ago I brought in an exterminator for ants who used a bait; this product is just as effective as the bait he was using, and MUCH cheaper! One of the syringes (and there are 4 to the pkg) will probably last you for years.
