Chad from Pa writes

Penetration depth of PenaShield

I have 10x10 wood beam, I am brushing Penashield onto the exterior of the beam. The type of wood is unknown, but it is not a softwood like Pine. Most likely a hardwood of some sort. How deep does this product penetrate into the wood. Once dry/cure time after 24-48 hrs will a second application increase penetration depth?

Answer:

PenaShield penetration rate depends on the wood species, time and moisture content of the wood.  Per the manufacturer, PeneShield is basically just a ready to use Bora-Care at prevention rates and penetrates about ¼ inch initially with deaper penetration over time and with higher moisture content due to difusion.  They did advise that 1-2 coats of PenaShield would not penetrate the thickness of the beams you are treating and that drilling and injecting Boracare or the ready to use Jecta would be more recommended depending on if pretreating or dealing with active infestations in the wood.
