    Q
Can I use Permethrin SFR to treat ants in the lawn? How do I apply it?
    A

Yes, you can use Permethrin SFR to control ants in the lawn.  You will mix 0.4 to 0.8 fluid ounce 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control.  Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates.

  • Asked by Gary from Windsor
    05/01/2017
    Q
How much Permethrin SFR 36.8% to a gallon of water to treat my Ash tree for borer infestation?
I want to use a sprayer. The label says 1 to 2 quarts is good for a 100 gal.
    A

Yes, Per the product label of Permethrin SFR 36.8% you would use 1 to 2 quarts per 100 gallons of water and apply to the lower branches and trunks prior to asult emergence. Adult emergence varies according to pest species, host trees, environmenta conditions and geographical location. Thprough coverage of bark is required for control.

Permethrin SFR 36.8% would not be a recommended product as a soil drench for Ash Borers as it is not a systemic and will only kill the insects that contact the treated soil.  Dominion 2L is labeled to use on trees to help protect against boring beetles. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 10-14 days after applications to encourage uptake.

    Q
Does Permethrin SFR 36.8% kill chiggers?
I have a major chigger infestation and it's hard to find a product to get rid of them. Will this work?
    A

No, Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for chiggers.

We would recommend using Demon Max. This is labeled for chiggers and is oil based as well. The mixing rate is 1 fl oz per gallon of water. This can be used outdoors every 30 days as needed.

  • Asked by Ryan from Loxley, Alabama

    Q
In outdoor applications, how resistant is Permethrin SFR 36.8% to rain?
I am treating a dog flea infestation both inside and outside my home, but I live in one of the rainiest regions in America; it's currently rainy season and we sometimes get rain five days a week. Is there any special application procedure I should follow (I.E. - only apply if it's not going to rain for a certain number of days after treatment, different concentration, etc)? I am treating roughly 4,000 square/feet of grassy yard. Can I use a garden hose sprayer, or do I have to use a hand pump? Is there an ideal concentration? And what sort of protection length should I expect?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be used inside and outside for flea control. If treating outside, you will want to apply on a  dry day and have 24 hours prior to a rainfall. We suggest treating with an insect growth regulator (IGR).  Treatments should be performed once every two weeks. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Fleas for a successful eradication program.

    Q
What is difference between Dragnet FT Emulsifiable Concentrate and Permethrin SFR 36.8?
I have a product call Dragnet FT Emulsifiable concentrate insecticide 36.8%. And your product is Permethrin SFR 36.8%. Can you tell me if it is the same thing because there is a big difference in price
    A

We used to carry Dragnet SFR, but FMC (the manufacturer) discontinued it. It was the same thing as Permethrin SFR 36.8. We are not sure if the Dragnet FT (which we didn't carry) is the exact same formulation, but from looking up the label, it appears to be the same percentage of the same active ingredient. Please let us know if there a particular pest you are treating.

  • Asked by Rene from Killeen Texas
    09/13/2011
    Q
Can this product, Permethrin SFR 36.8%, be used inside for chiggers?
    A
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for chiggers and may not provide adequate results for you. Onslaught insecticide is labeled for chiggers and can be used both indoors and outdoors as a broadcast spray. Chiggers are not known to infest structures. Chiggers are most likely outdoors in your yard. Many people are lead to believe that the infestation is indoors because they do not feel the effects of the chigger bites right away and then are lead to believe they are being bitten at a later time. Treatments for chiggers should begin in May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. You can also use Onslaught to do a barrier treatment around the outside of your home and in your crawl space to stop pests from moving indoors. If you feel strongly that you are being bitten inside by something we would urge you to get a sample of the pest and have it professionally identified by an entomologist. You can find an entomologist in your area by contacting your local cooperative extension office.
