    Q
Looking for something to control bark beetle.
    A

The best product for pine bark beetles is Permethrin SFR 36.8%. The biggest key with this insect is timing to ensure the infestation doesn't get out of hand. Once the tree is infested there isnt much you can do other than chop down the tree and burn it to try and prevent the current live ones from getting into any neighboring trees.

  • Asked by Heather from Sudbury Ontario
    07/16/2018
    Q
What can I do to keep adult sawyer beetles off my patio
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be used around the perimeter and edges of the patio to kill those that contact a treated surface but there is not a true repellent that could be used to keep them away.  Since sawyer beetles bore into dead or dying trees you should inspect trees, especially conifers, for any damage and have those infested cut down and the wood chipped or burned to eliminate areas that can draw them in.

  • Asked by Ige
    07/18/2018
    Q
What is the mix rate of Permethrin for ticks?
Ticks invaded my home about 1000 square feet, I just received my order of 1.25 gallon of Permethrin without mixing instructions.
    A

We would recommend using Permethrin SFR 36.8% at the rate of 1 2/3 oz. per gallon water for ticks.  It would also be a good idea to incorporate an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Archer IGR for complete control of ticks. You will need to peel the label booklet off the label. You can also view it online here.

    Q
Does Permethrin SFR 36.8% work on flies in the yard and around chicken coops?
    A

According to the Permethrin SFR 36.8% product label, you may spray 4 fl oz to 10 gallons of water.  For severe infestation, it is permissible to use 4 fl oz to 4 gallons. When treating poultry directly:  Use 1-4 fl oz in 3 3/4 gallons water, which should treat roughly 375 birds. Use 1 gallon of coarse spray per 100 birds." Permethrin SFR 36.8% is only labeled for fly control as a perimeter treatment or for animal quarters such as barns. A more appropriate product would be Talstar P. You should locate and eliminate the breeding source of the flies, since control will be very difficult relying on sprays. An easy and effective tool is the Flies Be Gone Fly Trap, which catches thousands of flies from up to 100 yards away. This trap is disposable and should be hung about 30 feet away from the house or other areas where you spend time. Please see our Flies Pest Guide for more information.

    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% kill tuxedo bugs?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for tuxedo bugs.  Unfortunately, we do not know of any products we carry that are. The best strategy  to keep tuxedo bugs away is to keep landscaping up and weeds to a minimum. You should block any entrances by sealing indoor cracks and crevices and/or by replacing weather stripping around doors. The best treatment for indoors is simply vacuuming them up.

    Q
I mixed Permethrin SFR and Martens IGR for fleas. How often can I retreat?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8%  is a great product choice for the treatment indoors and/or outdoors for fleas and ticks. Adding an IGR like Martins I.G. Regulator impedes the insect's reproductive cycle. These products should be applied once every two weeks.  Please take a look at our Flea Control Guide for more information.

  • Asked by Izzie from Redmond, Wa
    11/29/2018
    Q
Can I use Permethrin SFR if I have a toddler in the house?
We have a mild infestation of fleas. Thinking of applying permethrin on all the carpets.
    A

We recommend using an insecticide and an IGR when treating for fleas. While most permethrin products would be considered safe for people and pets once the application is competely dry, there are newer products which do not have the petroleum distillates found in most permethrin products or have the odor of them. One great product for indoor flea control is PT Alpine Flea and Bed Bug Aerosol, which is a ready-to-use product that includes an insecticide and IGR in one product. This specific product is classified as a Reduced Risk pesticide by the EPA. It is easy to apply and dries quickly and evenly. You can purchase this product alone or in our Indoor Flea and Tick Kit which includes the CimeXa Dust, also.

Most flea treatment products last about 14 days for indoor treatment since this is the recommended retreatment interval for this pest. We recommend treating every 14 days for fleas as long as you continue to see flea activity. This is in addition to vacuuming indoors every day or every other day and treating pets with products approved for this use. We discuss these and other tips in more detail in our online Flea Treatment Guide here

If you still have more of your IGR concentrate and prefer using an insecticide concentrate as well, then Zenprox EC is a great choice for use indoors. It comes in a convenient 2 oz bottle and also a pint.

Diatomaceous earth can be used either as a crack and crevice treatment for general pest control, or it can be worked into carpeting using a broom or carpet brush for flea control (be sure the product you have is labeled for this use). It will not interfere with other treatments when used correctly.

  • Asked by Renee from San Antonio, Tx

    Q
What setting on a hose sprayer should I use for flea/tick treatment using Permethrin SFR 36.8% ?
    A

How you set your hose end sprayer will depend completely on the brand of sprayer you have. We recommend you read the directions on the hose end sprayer as some require you to pre-dilute the product and other hose end sprayers do not.  That being said, rate of Permethrin SFR for fleas/ticks in a yard is not set per gallon so we do not recommend a hose end sprayer.  Per the product label you would mix 0.4 – 0.8 fl. oz. of Permethrin SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration.

  • Asked by Harry from Manreca, Ca
    12/29/2018
    Q
Can I use Permethrin SFR to exterminate Cockroaches?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for roaches, so it would kill roaches of any species or size that come into contact with it via direct spray or residual. If you are only seeing roaches occasionally and need a residual spray to create a barrier, then you have many options. Temprid FX is water-based and contains two active ingredients for longer control. It also does not have the odor that sprays with permethrin will have. If you are seeing different life stages and/or seeing roaches consistently, then we would recommend our Roach Control Kit Rotation A. Please see our Roach Treament Guide for more information and tips.
