    Q
What is the rate per gallon of water for Permethrin SFR and Malathion to treat my yard for ticks? Are these products pet safe?
I was told at Tractor Supply that mixing these two products with water & using it as a yard spray will get rid of all ticks. Is this true?
    A

Malathion is not labeled for ticks and should not be mixed with Permethrin SFR 36.8%.  We would recommend using Permethrin SFR at the rate of 04. to 0.8 fl oz per 1000 sqft for ticks.  It would also be a good idea to incorporate an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Archer IGR for complete control of ticks.  All of these products are pet safe if used as directed.  Pets need to be kept out of the area being treated during application and until everything is completely dry.

Please look over our Tick Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing this pest.

  • Asked by Shane from Houston, Texas
    07/26/2018
    Q
Do u have product to kill Pine Bark / Tree Boring Beetles in the tree?
These have overwhelmed several of my trees in 6 months - a year, then they move to an adjacent tree and weaken it and finally overwhelmed it until all foliage turns brown and fall. Then the bark begins to separate and limbs start to fall in the months after that.
    A

Pine bark beetles are hard to control as they get into the veins of the trees. If infected it’s best to take the tree down and chip it.  Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for bark beetles. The mixing ratio is 1 2/3 fl. oz per gallon of water. It is recommended that you spray the bark on the tree but not to the point of runoff. Permethrin will also help protect other trees from becoming infected.

    Q
Does mopping with common bleach decompose Permethrin SFR (after 2 days of applying it)?

  • Asked by Nick from Kingman, Az
    03/14/2019
    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% kill scorpions, spiders, etc out of my house & yard?
I just moved out to the far outskirts of the Kingman, AZ area. We keep our house and yard immaculate and do not want any "surprise" guests.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% will kill scorpions that come in contact with it. However, a more effective product would be Onslaught Fastcap which is specifically designed for scorpions and other insects that are harder to kill. Onslaught FastCap is a unique insecticide that has an encapsulated pyrethroid plus prallethrin for quick knockdown. The encapsulation really helps products to last longer in the heat and sunlight in desert environments better than the Permethrin SFR would.

  • Asked by Michael from Sumter
    05/23/2019
    Q
How do I use Permethrin SFR 36.8% for mole crickets?
Bad mole cricket in yard killing grass
    A

When using Permethrin SFR 36.8% for mole crickets the product label states you use 0.4 – 0.8 fl. oz. of Permethrin SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. If you’re using the higher rate of 0.8 oz per 1000 sq ft, that would require 35.2 ounces for an acre. Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration.

  • Asked by Don from Sask. Canada
    06/22/2018
    Q
What is Permethrin SFR used for?
It says: Permethrin SFR is not labeled to be used in home lawns for mosquito control nor can it be used to treat clothing. And then it goes on to say - Permethrin SFR is an insecticide concentrate that is applied to lawns - Permethrin SFR is labeled for ants, aphids, japenese beetles, bagworms, caterpillars, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, scorpions, wasps, ticks, ground beetles, termites and sod webworms. Isn't this self-contradictory??
    A

We get asked about both of these applications for Permethrin SFR 36.8% frequently so are providing upfront information to better inform customers that they are not intended uses of the product.  It can be used on lawns for the listed insects as indicated on the product label and only for mosquitoes in livestock premises.

  • Asked by Heather from Sudbury Ontario
    07/16/2018
    Q
What can I do to keep adult sawyer beetles off my patio
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be used around the perimeter and edges of the patio to kill those that contact a treated surface but there is not a true repellent that could be used to keep them away.  Since sawyer beetles bore into dead or dying trees you should inspect trees, especially conifers, for any damage and have those infested cut down and the wood chipped or burned to eliminate areas that can draw them in.

No, Permethrin SFR 36.8% cannot be used in a fogger/mister. This product should only be used in a pump sprayer. We sugest using a  product such as Talstar for misting.
