    Q
Is Permethrin SFR safe for couches?
I have a flea problem and want to treat my couches. I bought both Ppermethrin SFRr and Bifen XTS for the yard which one is safer for use on furniture
    A

Neither Permethrin SFR nor Bifen XTS can be applied to furniture.  Bifen XTS is also not able to be applied to carpets inside so would not be recommended for inside flea control.  Nyguard Plus would be a better option as it can be applied to upholstered furniture and other areas, it also is an odor neutralizer and contains an IGR (insect growth regulator) which is highly recommended when treating for fleas.  Please refer to our guide here for the best advice in effectively treating fleas both inside and out.

  • Asked by Kevin from Toms River, Nj

    Q
Tick control in 1/2 acre yard. I have kids, dogs and a lot of trees
Purchased home last year that backs into woods (about 20 acres or so) and we had a lot of ticks in the house, on dog and even a couple on us. What is the best way for me to control that on my own? Foggers, sprayers, etc. and what products do you recommend. We also have a decent amount of mosquitoes.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for ticks in yards and it will offer some residual effects as well. The Permethrin SFR 36.8% product label recommends that you mix the product with a surfactant to help the product better stick to the foliage that you are spraying.  Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. All of your pets should be treated with a product that is specifically labeled for use on pets for tick control.  Permethrin can also be used as a flea/tick dip on dogs.  We usually recommend using Talstar P for mosquito control and it can be used with an IGR such as Nyguard IGR to help sterilize the adults. The key is to apply to the underside of the leaves where the adults lay during the day. The Nyguard will also help with ticks as well. (Exciter is a pyrethrum which causes a faster kill but it is not an IGR).

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

We also have guides here that can help on treating ticks and mosquitoes.

    Q
Can I use Permethrin SFR to treat ants in the lawn? How do I apply it?
    A

Yes, you can use Permethrin SFR to control ants in the lawn.  You will mix 0.4 to 0.8 fluid ounce 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet. Q
How much Permethrin SFR 36.8% do you use for bagworm treatment on Arborvitae in NC?
This will be the third year I am trying to eliminate bagworm's on my Arborvitae. Desperate for something to work. Used Neem Oil last year and burned the plant due to heat and continued treatment. They were somewhat controlled but left alot of bags which I have been hand harvesting.
    A

You will use 0.4-0.8 oz. of Permethrin SFR per gallon of water every 21 days as necessary for bagworm control.  Keep in mind that this needs to be applied before the bags have formed.  If the bags have already formed, there is little you can do for control other than to physically remove them.

  • Asked by Michael from Plano, Texas
    03/21/2017
    Q
Will Permetherin SFR 36.8% kill chiggers?
If not is there a recommendation of what will?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for chiggers and will not provide adequate results for you. Onslaught Insecticide is labeled for chiggers and can be used both indoors and outdoors as a broadcast spray. Keep in mind chiggers are not known to infest structures. Chiggers are most likely outdoors in your yard. Many people are lead to believe that the infestation is indoors because they do not feel the effects of the chigger bites right away and then are lead to believe they are being bitten at a later time.

    Q
How should I mix Permethrin SFR to treat for roaches inside?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is mixed at a rate of 1 2/3 fl oz per gallon of water.   We also recommend you review our Roach Guide so you can understand how to  implement a full roach control program for best efficacy as sprays alone will not eliminate roaches and do not act as a repellents to keep them away.

  • Asked by Brian from Lower Merion, Pa
    04/17/2017
    Q
Is Permethrin SFR 36.8 safe for our water supply or will it leach?
What is the half-life of this product? Will it leach and be harmful in our drinking (well) water, pond or streams?
    A

We do not recommend using Permethrin SFR 36.8% within 25 feet of a water source souch as a pond or stream. When using the product topically on the soil surface there should be not be any issues with well water unless your water source is close to the top of the soil. Should you be using this product for a termite treatment within 10 feet of a well we would recommend using the back fill method. Which is dig out the soil and treat the soil, and return it to the area treated not by pouring the product in trenching. Anything within 5 feet of the well we do not recommend using for termite treatments.
