    Q
Is Permethrin SFR 36.8% safe to use in succulent pots?
I have a fungus gnat infestation. Thank you.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for use on container plants so we cannot recommend it.  We would recommend something like Bifen IT instead which is known for being super gentle on plants and can be used as a soil drench.  The best option with fungus gnats though is to allow the soil to dry out completely as this will kill any larvae in it.

    Q
Can Permethrin SFR 36.8? used for cattle rubs and at what rate?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be applied to cattle. For treating flies/lice, you will apply 4 fl oz per 2 1/2 gallons of low pressure spray or 1/2 fl oz per ear for ear tick. It can also be applied at the rate of 4 oz per 25 gallon (treats 50-100 heads). For scabies, mange, lice and ticks you will wet the animal thoroughly and repeat applications in 10-14 days. For a backrubber/self oiler, you will add 4 fl oz to 10 gallons of diesel oil or suitable mineral oil. Please refer to Pages 47 & 48 on the product label for specific mixing and application instructions prior to use.

    Q
I sprayed my yard 4 days ago with Permethrin SFR 36.8%, but I still have live ticks. Should I spray it again?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% should only be applied once every four weeks. It does take time for the product to work after applied. It would also be a good idea to incorporate an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Archer IGR for complete control of ticks.  All of these products are pet safe if used as directed.  Pets need to be kept out of the area being treated during application and until everything is completely dry.

Please look over our Tick Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing this pest.

  • Asked by Ricardo from San Clemente, California, Usa

    Q
Can I use Permethrin SFR for head lice on humans?
    A

Permethrin SFR and any other permethrin product we carry are not for for head lice or use on people. If head lice has been found on a person in the home or in the bed/environment a physician and medicine/shampoos provided by them would need to be used to get rid of the lice. Vacuuming and washing sheets/clothing is all that is needed for the home to remove any that may have come off of the infested person.

I treated my garden soil with Permethrin SFR 36.8%
Can I plant my vegetables and seeds in the dirt that was treated with this product without it's absorbing in the fruit once it develops?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can persist in the soil for up to 5 years if the soil was really drenched with the application. You should remove the soil and replace it with new untreated soil if you would like to plant edible vegetation in that area.

  • Asked by Kim from Owensboro,ky 42301

    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% help treat borers on my dogwood trees? Trimming limbs up to 6" in diameter and bark is coming off the trees.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for many types of borers and can be used on ornamental trees. For Dogwood Borers listed on page 39 of the product label, the recommended rate is 1 to 2 quarts per 100 gallons (0.32 to 0.64 fl oz per gallon / 3.2 to 6.4 fl oz per 10 gallons of water). Apply to the lower branches and trunks prior to adult emergence. Thorough coverage of bark is required for control.  Please review the product label for mix rates and application instructions.

Adult emergence varies according to pest species, host tree, environmental conditions and geographic location, your local Cooperative Extension Office would be a good resource to find out the best time for applications.

  • Asked by Alan from Richmond, Tx
    03/09/2018
    Q
I have Permethrin 36.8% which I bought to control sod web worms. Will it also work for crane flies?
    A

In most cases, it is not necessary to use an insecticide for crane fly larvae control. If damage is severe we would recommend using 1 oz. of Bifen IT per gallon of water per 1000 sq. ft. for the initial treatment and then 0.5 fl oz per gallon of water for any necessary follow-up treatments.

    Q
Can Permethrin SFR be used to treat termites underneath a kitchen cabinet?
    A

Permethrin SFR is labeled for termites but only as a perimeter treatment around the outside of your home, in a trench. A better option would be Termidor FOAM. You would have to drill holes into the cabinets to inject it into the galleries the termites have created for it to expand through their tunnels and reach them.  Please see our Termite Guide for more information.

    Q
Is this safe to spray on a pittbull. He licks it while wet
I simmered mandarin orange peels, after cooling and straining I added Dawn dish soap and about a table spoon of permethrin SFR 36.8% and enough water to mske 32 oz. How safe is this to spray on the dog. He does lick anything wet on him. It's done an awesome job with the fleas in the carpet.
    A

Yes you can use Permethrin SFR on your dog. You should use ¼ fl. oz of product to 1¼ gallons water then thoroughly wet the animal to the skin with sponge or rag. Let drip dry. You can find these instructions on page 16 of the Permethrin SFR product label? which we have linked in this answer for your convenience but is always available on the Permrthrin SFR product pageThe manufacturer has taken in consideration that dogs will lick etc. You can apply a cone collar to prevent the dog from licking the treated fur.

  • Asked by Jeff from Pewaukee, Wi
    05/03/2018
    Q
Milwaukee,WI /white pine borer that Davey Tree is calling turpentine beetle. Permethrin or Bifen XTS better?
Davey has used Permethrin SFR on mature white pine in metro Milwaukee area with questionable effectiveness. What do you recommend for pinne tree borers in the metro Milwaukee area? Thank you
    A

Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles/borers. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with either Permethrin SFR or Bifen XTS. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

  • Asked by Ryan from Manchester, Nh

    Q
Will this work for a mosquito barrier? By spraying bushes and edge of yard
    A

Permethrin SFR is not labeled for general mosquito control so we do not recommend it for this use. We usually recommend using Talstar P? for mosquito control and it can be used with an IGR such as Nyguard IGR to help sterilize the adults. (Exciter is a pyrethrum which causes a faster kill but it is not an IGR).
