Caroline from Eugene, Oregon writes

A pest control technician came in and laid the Advion Roach Bait Gel bait, but I am too afraid to turn the kitchen light off. Is it true that leaving the lights on will keep roaches out of the kitchen?

I am terrified of bugs, just the sight of a cockroach makes my heart beat out of my chest. Also, will leaving my apartment for a week or two make the roach problem worse?

Answer:

While roaches are typically nocturnal creatures and prefer darkness, leaving the light on would not completely keep them from coming out for Advion Roach Bait Gel. I would think the process may take a longer as they prefer darkness when scavenging for food and water. We cannot say whether leaving the apt would make it worse as we do not know the level of infestation you are having. When treating for roaches we recommend retreating every 10-14 days with a combination of products. That includes Gentrol Point Source Packs (insect growth regulator to stop reproduction) and spraying a residual insecticide along the baseboards, behind appliances, in corners, along underside of cabinets, etc and baiting. Old bait placements need to be removed and fresh bait should be reapplied every 10-14 days. The Gentrol Point Source packs last for 90 days so those do not need to be touched for 90 days. Please take a moment to look over our Roach Control Guide for more information and tips on treating this pest and preventing future infestations.
