Phantom Termiticide Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide is a crack and crevice treatment insecticide.  Indoors, you can use the Phantom to treat around baseboards, window sills, door frames, etc.  If you are treating for an active bed bug infestation, then you can use the insecticide every 4 weeks until you can go 30 days without any signs or bites from the bed bugs.  Please refer to our Bed Bug Guide on how to properly identify and treat for a bed bug infestation. Keep in mind that Phantom is not for sale to individuals in New York State without a Pest Control Operator's license, but many of our Bed Bug Kits are available to you.

Phantom can be used indoors for ants but is limited to cracks and crevices that could be used for entry outdoors such as window frames, and where pipes/wires enter the home. It is not for spraying the perimeter of the homes foundation. Temprid FX would be a more appropriate product for use indoors and out for ants and many other insects around the home and yard. Temprid is pet safe once dry as long as label instructions are followed. 

Applying Nyguard Plus over areas treated with Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide could null the nonrepellent factor of the Phantom.  You can instead just use the Nyguard IGR or Gentrol IGR in the areas to benefit from using an insect growth regulator.  The Nyguard Plus can then be applied the carpets as needed for carpet beetles.

Yes, Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide is labeled to control centipedes. 

If you were to wash an area where Phantom Termiticide Insecticide was applied, you likely will need to reapply.  If the area needs to be washed, do that first and then apply the Phantom.  

Phantom Termiticide Insecticide is labeled for bedbugs and it can be mixed with an IGR. However, Nyguard IGR is not labeled for bed bugs. There is only one insect growth regulator labeled for bedbug control, which is Gentrol IGR.  Please take a few moments to review our treatment article/videos on How to Get Rid of Bedbugs.

There is no actual wait period because the product have differing active ingredients. We also wanted to comment that is completely normal to see bedbugs two weeks after the Phantom application. Bedbugs must be treated in multiple treatments to eliminate the infestation. Phantom is safe if used as directed.  Everyone other than the person applying the product should be out of the area during application but can safely return once dry, normally 1-2 hours.

Phantom can be used only on the tufts, seams and folds of mattresses, do not spray the entire surface. Use 3 fl oz of Phantom per gallon of water to treat for bedbugs. Phantom does not kill the bedbugs right away, it can take up to two weeks for bugs to actually die after contacting the treated area. We do recommend using other products such as Bedlam in combination with the Phantom ,so you will have both a fast knockdown and a long lasting residual.

You are exactly right. You fill the sprayer with 1/2 gal of water then add 3 ounces of Phantom followed by the pre-measured amount of the IGR. Agitate the mixture well then add the other 1/2 gallon of water. Agitate one more time and then you are ready to spray.

Phantom will kill termites that come into contact with the product, even at the higher dosage. We do recommend that you read and follow the product label instructions to be sure you are using Phantom the way that the manufacturer intends it to be used.

We would definitely recommend going with the veterinarians advice since they are the experts on the type of birds you own. An alternative of course would be to remove the birds from your home, let the PCO perform the application, wait until the product has dried and all rooms have been vented and then return the birds to your home. This is usually a very safe solution since the birds are normally only sensitive to the fumes.

Phantom is a pretty safe product for use indoors when it is used according to the product label. Phantom is not labeled for use as a broadcast or area spray and it is supposed to be kept in cracks and crevices in order to limit skin contact. Please take a few minutes to read over the Phantom product label so that you can better understand the difference between thorough and off label uses. Exponent is not labeled to be used with Phantom and really there is no reason to do so. Exponent is a synergizing agent that is used to help breakdown a specific enzymes that insects use to stave off the effects of synthetic pyrethroid insecticides and pyrethrin based insecticides. Since Phantom does not fall into either category you really would not benefit from adding Exponent into the solution. You did not mention what pest you are trying to eliminate or where you would be applying the products so we cannot make further recommendations as to what other chemical you can add to Phantom.

One diluted gallon of Phantom can cover up to 1,000 sq ft. Phantom should be applied not more than once every 30 days. Phantom can be used as a crack and crevice application indoors and may not be used as a broadcast application on mattresses. Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions. You can use Phantom at the same time as using a roach bait. In fact you can use just about any type of insecticide at the same time as using a roach bait as long as you do not apply them in the exact same areas. Insecticides should be kept down low for the most part in cracks and crevices and/or spot applications around baseboards and under appliances and around window frames and door frames. Roach baits should be applied up high on counter tops, in cabinets, in drawers, in food pantries and other places where spraying would not be appropriate. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide. If you tank mix Phantom with Demand or Kicker you will effectively negate this effect which will of course diminish the efficacy of Phantom. You should also note that Phantom is not labeled to be tank mixed with any other product.

Phantom should be safe to spray any place where it is safe to spray water since it is a water based insecticide. We still recommend that you spray a small inconspicuous area to test for staining.  We would also like you to note that Phantom is only labeled to be used in cracks and crevices and should not be used as a broadcast spray over hardwood floors.

Phantom is not labeled for fruit flies. The main goal with fruit flies is to find the breeding site.  In restaurants fruit flies almost always breed from the syrup and other food and drink that falls behind the bar areas and where the soda machines and soda guns are.  We carry traps to catch the adult flies that are flying around, the best seller being our natural catch plus fruit fly traps.  As far as the source and breeding sites, you should wash all of the areas underneath the bar and soda areas to clean any syrup or other sticky areas and places where food could have failed behind or under machines  It is also a good idea to apply a product like Invade Hot Shot which is a foam that will eat away any organic matter that fruit flies breed in. You can also use a short acting spray such as Microcare for a quick knockdown of the nuisance adults that are present at the time you spray.
