    Q
Phantom has the same active ingredient, in the same concentration as Pylon. Are they the same?
I first started looking at buying Pylon to add to my rotation for spraying for thrips. But it is stupid expensive. Then I was looking here for roach solutions and I see phantom. My question is - is the formulation, the inactive ingredients so different in Phantom that it would not perform well on thrips. Because Pylon is listed for thrips, but not roaches, and Phantom is listed for roaches but not thrips. But they both have the same active ingredient in the same concentration. I have to assume the buffering agents or deliver systems are so different that Phantom doesn't work on thrips ... or perhaps they both work equally as well, and BASF simply listed one set of pests on one product and a different set on the other. What do you think? If I buy Phantom for roaches, do you think it will help with thrips in my rotation?
    A
You ask a great question and honestly we cannot tell you if both will work for the same insects if they are not on the label. We also do not carry a concentrate form of Pylon so we are not familiar with it and how it would truly compare to Phantom. The best person to ask would be one of the technicians at BASF. They will be able to better answer any and all of your questions regarding the 2 products and if the Phantom will work for your use for thrips to help save you money. You can reach BASF at 1-800-777-8570. We would recommend an alternative product that would potentially take care of both but we would first need to know where you are having a problem with the thrips. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Millions of tiny ants, lots of rain. I have emptied cabinets and sprayed there is not a crumb in my house.
I want something for exterior perimeter as well as interior
    A

Phantom is a great choice for "social" insects such as ants or those insects that congregate together for nesting and feeding. Phantom offers a delayed kill that gives insects time to get back to the nest and infect other insects with the insecticide. Phantom is also a non-repellent insecticide which means that sensitive insects like roaches can not tell that it is there and they readily cross over the treatment area. Phantom is usually used indoors for current infestations as a crack and crevice spray only. Exterior applications are limited to spot and crack and crevice treatments around door frames, window frames, eaves, attic vents, and holes where utilities enter into the structure

Phantom was sprayed in my Kitchen cabinets with my dishes in them.
Phantom was recently sprayed throughout my my kitchen cabinets while my dishes and such were present. After reading about the insecticide, I realize I should not of allowed that. Is there something I can do to clean them now?
    A
Since, Phantom is not label for such an application. We recommend contacting the manufacturer BASF at 800-526-1076, to whom can help troubleshoot this with you.

    Q
I use Phantom to control bed bugs if I added ExciteR to the mixture would this be more beneficial
    A
Exciter is designed to be mixed with insecticides to give them a faster knockdown but the only products you would not want to use ExciteR in are non-repellent products like Phantom

  • Asked by Sharin from Hartford Ct

    Q
Can Phantom be used on carpets and chairs?
    A
Phantom Termiticide is not labeled to be used as a broadcast on open carpeted areas.  You should try to keep applications of Phantom Termiticide to small spots and cracks and crevices around the room, do not spray over entire surfaces where people come in frequent contact. It can be applied to the seams and folds of mattresses and upholstered furniture underneath the cushions

    Q
Can I put Phantom over top of Onslaught? Will the chemical mixture change/be ineffective together?
Two months ago, I sprayed what was left of the Phantom I had purchased a couple of years ago at a friends house and purchased Onslaught (and a new sprayer) to do my own place. She is wanting me to retreat her place but I don't want to buy a bottle of Onslaught just for her. Can I put Phantom over top of it? Will the chemical mixture change/be ineffective together? Thank you for your help.
    A

We do not recommend treating other properties unless you are licensed or if you are the owner. Phantom has a residual for up to 90 days inside as does Onslaught. You do not want to treat with another product after treating a couple of months ago. Wait another month before treating with either product.

    Q
How is Phantom different from Termidor?
Don't they both have the same active ingredient as well as shared target pest? It seems like maybe Phantom is better indoors and Termidor is better outdoors but what is the reasoning for that?
    A
Termidor and Phantom are not the same in many ways. Phantom is an indoor and outdoor use product which is highly used for roach and ant infestations but does cover a small range of other pests. Phantom has the active ingredient Chlorfenapyr 21.45%, which is different from the Termidor which has Fipronil 9.1%. Termidor is labeled for OUTDOOR use only.  It can only be used indoors to spot treat termite or insect activity inside wall voids (for example when treating a live termite infestation in a wall void) .  It cannot be used indoors for ant or pest control other than inside wall voids. Termidor can only be used twice a year around the foundation of the home and only sprayed 18" up and 18" out when treating. Termidor is primarily used for Termite and ant infestations and has a better transfer than Phantom. Both products are similar in that they are non-repellant transfer insecticides.

    Q
I used all of the FenvaStar in my first treatment, can Phantom termiticide be used for second?
Big home ( converted barn ). Phantom is commercial sized. And will be doing basement for spiders and other pests, but doing interior of home for bed bugs.
    A
The Phantom is a great product for bed bugs and can be used for your second treatment. Keep in mind that for a large home you would need the 78oz bottle of phantom as the 21oz bottle only makes 7 gallons of finished solution which is less than the bottle of FenvaStar creates. Also, typical treatments for bedbugs are every 7-14 days until you can go 30 days in a row with no signs or bites from the bedbugs. Phantom you can only spray once every 30 days. Another option that would be better would be the Temprid SC. It can be sprayed every 7 days for bed bugs and covers a larger range of insects than the Phantom for general perimeter control.

  • Asked by Ken from Sacramento, Ca

    Q
What is the reason why I can't use Exciter with Phantom?
I have read the Labels of both Phantom and Exciter in addition to other sources which state "not to use Exciter as an additive with non-repellent insecticides", but have been un able to determine why. Is Exciter a repellent or does it interfere/interact with the active ingredient in Phantom?
    A
Mixing a non repellant like Phantom with a synergist like Exciter will cause the Phantom to become somewhat of a repellant and also speed up the knockdown which is counter productive because it doesn't encourage the domino effect as well as good as non repllants. Non repellants have a slower kill which allows it to spread much more thoroughly throughout insect populations through the transfer and delay effect. When you add a synergist to a non repellant you loose that added benefit.

    Q
Do you have a smaller bottle Phantom I can use for Bed Bugs?
I have bed bugs and cant reed of them . I need help bad I have kids and on a fixed income. I have heard this is the best for them . Do u have a smaller bottle I can get please so I can spray. Thanks Barbara
    A
Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide 20 oz is the smallest quantity of liquid concentrate. You may want to look into the Phantom Aerosol 17.5 oz cans. Mattress treatments must be confined to the seams, folds, and edges only. Remove linens and wash before reuse. Allow to dry before remaking bed. Use as a crack and crevice or spot treatment in areas where insects may harbor.

    Q
The bed bug treatment guide says to treat every 2 weeks, do you reapply Phantom spray every 2 weeks?
Should you spray with Phantom 2 weeks later even though it has a much longer residual?
    A
Phantom is only labeled to be applied once every 4 weeks.  The guide was written with the products like Bedlam and Temprid in mind that are in some of the kits and is only a guideline.  You should always follow the instructions on each individual product.  It is recommend to apply some products every 2 weeks, this is due to the life cycle of the bedbugs and how long it takes the eggs to hatch out.

    Q
Can Phantom be used to spray on the yard outside for multiple tiny black/brown ants and several ant hills?
Or would the Complete Ant Kit be better?
    A

Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide is not for yard use or any outdoor perimeter spray treatments. It is limited to spot and crevice treatments around pest entry points on the structure only. You can use the Outdoor/Indoor Ant Kit for outdoor ant control, or a spray like Temprid FX.

  • Asked by Matthew from South Lake Tahoe, Ca United States
    06/15/2014
    Q
Is my aresenal good for carpenter ants and arachnids?
I find big black carpenter ants and their mounds in my Lake tahoe home. I have Bifen IT (I use for ticks), Phantom, Advance 375 A Ant Bait and Optigard. I really like the effectiveness of Phantom, I spray it once every three months on the exterior of my house in the bay area and I never see an ant. Which if any of these should I use or should I get something else?
    A
Phantom concentrate is really designed for use inside, so we would not recommend spraying it outside. You can spray the Phantom along baseboards and in cracks and crevices inside. Termidor SC is the companion product to Phantom, and it is for outdoor use and is excellent for ant control and is also labeled for spiders. You should not spray on top of baits since this could make them less attractive to the ants. Both ant baits you have are labeled for carpenter ants and would be a good start. We also have a Carpenter Ant Kit that includes baits specifically formulated for carpenter ants.

    Q
Can I spray phantom in kitchen and bathroom cupboards? Where would I spray in bedrooms including children's?
I have a BAD German Cockroach infestation!
    A
We would not recommend spraying the Phantom inside the cabinets. You can use it along baseboards and in cracks and crevices such as under or behind cabinets. Keep children out of the treatment area until the application has dried. You should also use a roach bait gel and an insect growth regulator when controlling German Roaches, in addition to being adament about practicing good sanitation and eliminating competing food and water sources. We sell bait and IGR together in our Roach Control Kit #1. You can also read more on our German Roach Control Page.
