Product Overview

The Indoor Carpenter Ant Bait Kit contains professional pest control products to control carpenter ants found inside structures. This kit has two baits containing different formulations and active ingredients for indoor baiting to increase bait acceptance and efficacy. Advion Ant Bait Gel has a high moisture content and sweet bait matrix with the active ingredient Indoxacarb, while the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait contains a protein bait matrix and the active ingredient Abamectin.   The Indoor Carpenter Ant Bait Kit also contains bait plate stations that allow you to apply and monitor both baits simultaneously.

As with all of our Pest Control Kits, we recommend using an Integrated Pest Management approach to ant control. It is crucial to practice good sanitation by eliminating competing food and water sources and eliminating harborage and entrance points to keep ants from entering the structure. If you are able to identify specific carpenter ant nests, you may want to consider additional direct treatment options as well.

Although the products in this kit are labeled to control many species of ants, we suggest you identify the ants you find indoors to assist in choosing the best kit for your situation. See all of our Ant Control Kits here.

How to Apply the Indoor Carpenter Ant Bait Kit

INTERIOR APPLICATION:

Bait Plate Stations, Advance Carpenter Ant Granular Bait, Advion Ant Bait Gel

*Handle bait stations with clean, dry hands or wear gloves. Avoid handling bait with bare hands as this may make baits less attractive to the ants.

*Your kit includes a set of 12 bait station bases, 12 lids, and 12 glue dots. Pull apart the stacks to separate the components. Each base is a tray with two ridged channels so that you can use two different baits in each bait plate station.

*To apply the Advance Carpenter Ant Granular Bait, first unscrew the top to remove the seal under the cap. Then flip open the “spoon” side of the cap and use a dedicated or disposable tool such as a plastic spoon to scoop a small amount of the bait granules into each station. Use 0.5 oz. (1 Tablespoon) of bait in one side only of each bait plate station you plan to set out. (Keep the other channel empty for the gel bait.)

*Be sure to store bait in a cool, dry place with the lid securely closed.

*Advance Carpenter Ant Granular Bait can be applied outdoors as a broadcast, perimeter, or colony treatment. Apply when the ground is dry and rain is not expected for at least 24 hours. See the product label for complete outdoor application instructions.

*To apply the Advion Ant Bait Gel, first gently unscrew the solid blue tip of the tube you would like to use. Replace this tip with one of the clear, reusable tips included with your kit. Use either a bait gun or the included plastic plunger to gently expel the gel from the tube, similar to using a syringe. (You may need to pull back gently on the plunger to prevent over-application.) Place a spot of bait about the size of a pea in the other side of each bait plate stations you plan to use.

*When you are done applying the Advion Ant Bait Gel, replace the clear plastic tip with the blue solid tip to store bait.

*After you have filled your bait plate station trays, snap a lid onto each one by lining up the U-shaped tab and the round tab with the corresponding parts in the tray. Gently press the edges of the lid until it is firmly snapped into the tray, being careful not to tilt the trays, which may cause granule bait to spill. You can remove the perforated tab on the lid to allow ants easier access to the baits.

*You should place bait in areas where ant activity has been noticed. It is important to avoid purposefully putting the bait in the middle of an ant trail or onto the ants themselves: this will make the ants avoid the bait and make the baiting ineffective. Instead, put the bait near ant activity or next to ant trails. Some examples of places where the bait can be placed are:

  • In kitchen cabinets and on countertops.
  • Behind, next to, and under the stove.
  • Near sinks or drains
  • Around pipes, cords, and cables that come out of the wall.
  • Behind and under bathroom fixtures.
  • Around the medicine cabinet and vanity.

*You should check the bait placements once a week and replenish as needed until ant activity has ceased. Be sure to continue reapplying bait as long as the ants accept it!

*Store baits in a dry, temperate area, out of direct sunlight. Baits are best used within a year of opening.

*Advance Carpenter Ant Granules can be applied outdoors as a broadcast, perimeter, or colony treatment. Apply when the ground is dry and rain is not expected for at least 24 hours. See the product label for complete outdoor application instructions.

*Bait stations may be wiped clean and washed with warm water for reuse later. Do not use fragrant cleaners, as this may make future bait applications unattractive.

    Amazing

    By Murray on 04/02/2022

Didn't know how much of a carpenter ant problem we had until we used this kit. Within 12 hours we started sweeping up dead ants. The liquid gel seems to work best for us.

    Carpenter Ants

    By Kelly on 04/28/2023

I purchased the Indoor Carpenter Ant Bait Kit. The carpenter ants were attracted to the gel bait but would make a wide circle to avoid the granules. Maybe at this point in time they were only interested in a sweet food. The ants avoided either bait in the plastic trays. If I put the gel on both the outer edge of the tray and inside the tray the ants would enter the plastic tray and eat the gel bait. If the gel was only inside the tray they would not enter the tray. The ants seem to be gone. I still see another dead one now and then but no more live ones. I hope those are just stragglers, not a new group starting over. I tried the granules with random ants in the yard and they were interested and those little hills disappeared. So the granules did kill ants - the carpenter ants did not consume it but I think it would have killed them, too. The customer service rep was very helpful. I would buy from DoMyOwn again but probably not this particular kit. I would try to research if carpenter ants are more likely to eat sweet or protein bait based on time of year or something like that and go with one bait or the other. So no stars for the trays (though I like the idea of the trays), 5 stars for the gel because it seemed to work, and 3 stars for the granules because it killed other ants.

The ants don't seem to be interested in the gel

    By Stewart on 11/11/2022

and it dried up over the course of 48 hours. I haven't used the powder or the baiting stations yet but I'm hoping for a better result. I'll try to update the rating if it works.

    Expert ResponseExpert response:
Thank you for taking the time to review this product. This kit intentionally provides two different baits containing different formulations and active ingredients for indoor baiting to increase bait acceptance and efficacy. Due to the needs of the colony constantly changing, there are times when ants are foraging for sugar only, which is contained in the gel bait, and are sometimes foraging for protein only, which is contained in the granular bait. The purpose of the bait plate stations in this kit is that it allows you to apply and monitor both baits simultaneously, so that the ants you are targeting have an option between sugar and protein baits.

Great product with one major drawback

    By Charles on 09/09/2023

Advance Carpenter Ant bait definitely helped get rid of the ants, along with a secondary use of carpenter ant spray for the perimeter after the bait was used. But the bait attracts chipmunks which eat the bait left in small piles without killing them and they make their homes there , so now I have a major problem with chipmunk invasion with many holes undermining my foundation and have tried all available repellants which are only temporary solutions and none of the kill traps work. At least the ants are gone, but if you use this bait make sure to spread it around rather than leaving small piles and maybe use a rodent repellant at the same time . Even the trays are decimated by these rodent terrorists in cute furry disguise.

The kit contains bait plate stations that have 2 compartments and a plastic lid that snaps on top of the station. Q
Is the gel from the Indoor Carpenter Ant Bait Kit be effective after it hardens?

Gel hardens after a few days. Will it still be affective in killing ants?

A

Ant bait gel such as Advion Ant Bait Gel will be most attractive for about the first 2 weeks, but up to one month. You should reapply gel as long as you see ants in the area that are consuming the bait. Older bait still has active ingredient that works, but the food attractants will begin to get stale and less attractive over time.
