    Q
Should you remove kids toys, mattress when using Ultracide on carpet beetles?
Most of the carpet beetles were present in my children's rooms (carpeted rooms). Ultracide will be used next week to get rid of the beetles. However, do I need to (or would it be best) to remove all their toys and books from the bedroom? What about the clothes in the dressers and closet? I was told I can just place these items on top of the bed or dresser. Also, should I treat all carpeted areas in the home, even oriental rugs that are not close to baseboards?
    A
Please note that Ultracide is not labeled to control carpet beetles. When used as directed on the product label the product is being sprayed straight down on the floor or furniture that needs to sprayed and removing everything from the room is not necessary. The clothes in the dresser and closet should not be contacted by the spray as long as the drawers and door stay closed. All items should be removed from the floor so a thorough treatment can be achieved. When treating upholstered furniture, treat under cushions and areas where insect development occurs.

    Q
Does Ultracide have an expiration date?
If so where is it located on the can?
    A
Most insecticides have a shelf life of about 3-5 years is stored properly in a temperature stable environment out of direct sunlight. Most manufactures will only have the date the item was actually made imprinted on the can/bottle. Each placement is going to vary by manufacturer and many times can be in a coded form.

    Q
What can I do for reoccurring fleas
There has been a bad infestation in my back yard plus raccoons tried to nest in my fireplace, we got it out but they left a lot of fleas as a gift, I applied the ultra side and I vacuum everyday for the past fourteen days, I treated my dogs with spot on treatments, I have seen three fleas this week, what else can I do, will the cold weather kill them off? PLEASE HELP ME!!
    A
Yes, the cold weather will certainly lessen their activity. You said the fleas were in your backyard. We recommend using a product like our Indoor/Outdoor Kit which includes Onslaught and Martins IGR. This kit will kill the adult fleas, while breaking down the reproduction cycle. Please review the Indoor/Outdoor Flea kit page.

    Q
What is the best product to use for a bird mite infestation in the house and also in the car? I live in new yo
    A
It is important to be absolutely sure you are actually dealing with bird mites. Have the suspected bird mite identified by a reputable source, such as your local cooperative extension office or a reputable pest control operator. Treatments will vary for different pests. If you do indeed have bird mites, you must first find the source of the infestation, usually a bird nest or a dead bird on or in the home. Removal of the infested nest or bird and a thorough cleanup is necessary. For treatment in the home, we recommend you frequently vacuum all carpet and upholstery and dispose of the bag or vacuum contents in a sealed bag outdoors. Spray Sterifab on couches, chairs and other upholstered furniture where you may spend time resting. Use MotherEarth Dust in all cracks and crevices around the perimeter of the room. Apply a thin coat of MotherEarth dust to rugs and carpets. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug or carpet. Let product sit overnight. Repeat application as necessary and vacuum every 3 - 4 days for effective control. MotherEarth dust does not have a fast knockdown, it can take several days for insects to die after they contact the dust.  Put all clothes through the dryer on high heat to help kill mites and their eggs.We have had many customers use the above recommendations with great success. Most customers report that it can take several months to get rid of all of the mites. Finding and removing the source of the infestation is very important and is the key to getting rid of the mites for good.

  • Asked by Jon from Orange County, Ca

    Q
Is there another option for flea control besides an aerosol like Ultracide? Something I can mix in a gallon sprayer and spray myself?
    A

Yes. You can use a product such as Permethrin SFR tank mixed with Martins IGR. The comination of these two products will give you an adulticide to ete the adult fleas and and insect growth regulator to help break the cycle of the immature fleas from developiing. Prior to treatment, carpets, draperies and upholstered furniture should be vacuumed thoroughly and the vacuum cleaner bag disposed of in an outdoor trash receptacle. Remove pets from area to be treated. After treatment, do not allow children and pets into treated areas until spray has dried. You may need to repeat these treatments 3-4 times in 2 week intervals depending on how bad the infestation is. Pets and yards should also be treated with approved products.

    Q
Is Ultracide safe to spray on mattresses for fleas?
    A

It is not recommended to use Ultracide on mattresses.  We recommend that you remove all linens and wash and dry on high heat to kill any existing fleas. While they are being laundered, we recommend spraying your mattress and box spring with SteriFab give time to completely dry before applying your linens back on the bed. We suggest that you have the cat treated for fleas by your vet. Ultracide is great for indoor flea treatments on carpeted, hard surface floors and furniture. We recommend vacuuming prior to the application and each day for 14 days. On the 14th day, you will vacuum and treat with a second application of Ultracide and vacuum for additional 14 days. After vacuuming each day, replace with a new bag or empty the canister (if bagless) in a trash bag outside of the home.

    Q
I have fleas in my house in my carpet
    William corey Williamfrt7@Aol.com
    A
We recommend using Ultracide for indoor fleas. Ultracide is a very effective flea control aerosol that provides immediate kill of adult fleas and prevents formation of new adults from eggs or larvae. Ultracide is a very safe and effective flea control product that is used widely by professional companies such as Terminix and Orkin in homes with children and pets all the time.  You should only apply Ultracide to carpeted areas and upholstered areas.  Do not apply on top of couches and chairs where people rest their arms, fleas do not breed in these areas. You would want to spray around the foot of the furniture, and underneath couch cushions.  You should have children and pets in another room while you are treating.  After treatment, allow 30 minutes to dry and then it is perfectly safe for children and pets to re-enter the room. Vacuum immediately before the treatment and every other day for the next 14 days. A second treatment may be needed after 14 days for heavy infestations.
