Is A Roach Trap Right For Me?

The search for the best roach control method is likely to include a roach trap or two, as they are among the best products for getting rid of these pesky bugs. The basic trap is designed to attract as many roaches as possible from all over the house, and to keep them from escaping once they have ventured onto the surface of the cockroach trap.

The way in which these products attract the insects varies according to which brand you choose. Some contain substances that mimic certain foods that the bugs find to be irresistible, others utilize specific pheromones that will only be smelled by the insects and therefore cannot be attractive to other animals that might destroy or damage the traps. Some products even use a combination of these two methods.

What Should I Know When Using Cockroach Traps?

The most important thing to keep in mind is that although the traps are quite useful in getting rid of an infestation, you may need to purchase and apply some roach spray, or even use products such as roach insect growth regulators in order to gain complete control of the problem.

One major benefit of using the traps is that they can be left out in the open exposed to children and pets, as they do not contain any harmful or dangerous chemicals, although for the glue based varieties you might want to hide them at least somewhat as they can be messy if tampered with.

Where to Place the Traps

A roach trap’s effectiveness is, in many ways, tied to where in the home it is placed. To get the best results you should place the traps in an even fashion close to where the roaches might be hiding so that they will be able to smell the bait contained in the traps.

Some of the better areas for placement include:

•    Inside any crack or crevice around shelving.
•    Around bathroom fixtures.
•    Behind anything that hangs on your walls (pictures, clocks, etc.).
•    Behind cabinets and counter tops in the kitchen area.
•    In dark corners, such as inside sink cabinets, and other cabinets.
