Per the manufacturer, if you’re drawing the water from the pond for your drinking and bathing then no, Rodeo Herbicide shouldn’t be used in the pond. You would have to manually remove the cattails. If you have a potable water intake, the label states the following:
Rodeo Herbicide should be used and applied within 24 hours of mixing with water for the most effectiveness.
Bamboo is very difficult to kill since its roots grow so deep. A glyphosate product like Rodeo will need to be applied at the highest labeled rate directly to the fresh cut stump of the bamboo after you cut it down level to the ground. You could also use a brush and stump killer applied undiluted directly on the fresh stump.
You will use 2 2/3 fl. oz. of Rodeo Herbicide per gallon of water.
Rodeo Herbicide states on the product label that it can be applied to emerged weeds in all bodies of fresh and brackish water that may be flowing, nonflowing or transient.
Rodeo Herbicide is not labeled for American pondweed so we cannot confirm if it will kill it. Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide would be a good option to use (.75 fl oz per gallon) and should be used with a surfactant, such as the Non-Ionic Surfactant. The ratio for that product is 1-2 teaspoons per gallon of water.
You will see full results of an application of Rodeo Herbicide within 14 days.
Rodeo Herbicide is more of an aquatic herbicide, so it is safe for use around or in water. Most RoundUp products state not to apply directly to water, to areas where surface water is present, or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark.
Rodeo Herbicide is an aquatic herbicide but is labeled to be used in other areas, including industrial sites, rights-ofway (including roadsides, electric utility and communication transmission lines, pipelines, railroads, airports). Rates vary depending on the target weeds, rate is 2/3 oz to 13 oz, you will need to refer tothe product label for complete information. It only kills those that are sprayed and has no residual.
Rodeo contains glyphosate which is a non-selective herbicide. Non-selective herbicides will kill just about any vegetation that they are sprayed on. If the tree is established, then the Rodeo should have no effect on the tree roots. You should try to limit the exposure to the tree and only directly treat the vegetation you are trying to get rid of. Please contact your local cooperative extension office for alternate solutions as the tree is in the pond.
The best time to treat for cattails with Rodeo Herbicide is just after the seed head has formed on the plant.
Rodeo Herbicide is labeled for thistle, and when used as directed on the product label, it is safe in and around aquatic sites that have fish and other aquatic life.
Rodeo Herbicide is mixed at the rate of 2 ounces per gallon of water for crabgrass.
Rodeo Herbicide has no grazing/drinking restrictions on the label except for lactating cattle.
You can seed areas 2 weeks after using Rodeo Herbicide.
Rodeo should not stain concrete walkways if applied as directed on the product label. We have not heard of any staining occurring or any reports from our customers that have applied the product.
