Mechanical ScareCrow - pretty darn good!
By Karen on 04/27/2016
This mechanical scare-crow is pretty darn good! It's a little tricky to get set up properly and it leaks just a bit. The part are all plastic - the instructions actually tell you not to tighten the fittings too tightly so that you will not crack or strip them. Rock and hard place really - if they are too loose they leak and won't provide a closed, pressurized system. Too tight and it leaks anyway as a result of being compromised and possibly ruined. It is also a bit top-heavy and the ground stake needs to be twice as long to compensate for this - it isn't so you may need an anchor of some kind. We slipped the hose between rocks which surround our garden - this served to stabilize the crow a bit. Before that it fell over any time it activated - sudden burst of water was enough to knock it over. I actually think a better solution would be to just replace the stake with one that is longer. I'm considering a run to Home Depot for that. Bottom line - after you get it set up and ready it works. It's a hoot to watch the cats get chased out of the garden by the burst of water and I personally like the fact that it doesn't harm the critters and varmints. :)

ScareCrow Sprinkler Motion Activated Animal Deterrent

Too early to tell
By Barry on 04/09/2013
I'm still trying to work with the unit. I have some kind of varmint digging up my garden. The scarecrow didn't deter whatever it is. I think it may be Armadillos, since I have seen them in the yard a lot. I moved the scarecrow closer to the garden, hoping this would help. I also changed the battery as it has already discharged after 2 weeks. If this doesn't work, I'm thinking about returning it.

Scarecrow Sprinkler
By Anonymous on 07/17/2013
Motion portion works as advertised, but the actual sprinkler head adjustment will not stay in lowest position. Have two others from 1 year ago and the sprinkler mechanism (though the same) seems to be of better quality. Would not recommend buying this product as others are available.

Pretty Good
By Terrie on 02/17/2014
My challenge is attaching it to the ground. I live in a dry area and the plastic is too flimsy to be shoved into the hard ground. My bucket with sands and rocks is not as stable as I like and I am still figuring out how to position it and move it and not have it knock itself over. It seems to work in the little area I have it deployed in, but moving it about is my next goal.

Trying to save my Garden
By Jim on 03/11/2014
I have bought two of these and they work fairly well. We have squirrels and birds that eat everything in our garden. The ScareCrow sprinkler does a fair job of keeping them out...BUT the adjustment for sensitivity is VERY POOR. we have to have it at full sensitivity to pick up the preditor approach and because of that even with a little breaze it goes off too much.

hmmm
By Frances on 05/25/2014
I purchased two scarecrows to deter deer from my yard. Took weeks to get my son to install one - not a difficult job at all. However, my biggest complaint is the spray is too high and did not bother my medium sized dog. Perhaps we just need to read the manual on how to lower spray so it really would deter unwanted animals. So, read the manual when you get the product. Got one for my daughter's yard also to scare cats, so need to find answer to spray hight. Otherwise eager to see if it really works.

Scarecrow
By Snitz on 06/25/2014
This item does scare deer. But it leaks around the washers. For the money high quality high pressure rubber washers should be used not cheep hard plastic ones. As water is not cheap I may still return if I can not solve this issue! Also the stake should be longer so it does not work loose in wet ground.

ScareCrow Sprinkler - just ok
By Bill on 07/03/2014
My problem is with groundhogs. They ate all my seedlings down to nothing immediately after planting. I replanted and installed the ScareCrow. The scarecrow worked great for about 6 weeks. After that the groundhog(s) learned that it was only getting wet and to him/her it was well worth the price for some delicious veggies. This product probably works great for everything else but it didn't work for me for very long.

Scare crow sprinkler
By John on 07/14/2014
Worked really well on my wife. Arrived late in the season for the corn so we'll have to hold final judgement until next year when we try again. I think the theory is great and would add a noisemaker to it. The range seems somewhat limited compared to other similar devices.
ScareCrow Sprinkler
By Dave on 08/31/2014
I purchased two ScareCrow sprinklers two weeks ago. One works fine, the other does not work at all. I also have a concern about how they work. You have to choose whether you want to protect against small animals OR large animals. If you adjust for large animals it will miss small animals and vice versa. That isn't clear when reviewing item description.

Squirrel Deterrent
By Ralph on 09/24/2014
I got this product for my legally blind 94yr old father-in-law, a retired golf course superintendent, who still maintains a putting green in his back yard. The squirrels had dug numerous holes in his lawn and green over the summer and the ScareCrow Sprinkler was our attempt to halt this behavior. We used the one sprinkler to protect the green and have made numerous adjustments to the settings and the placement of the sprinkler with marginal success. The number of squirrel diggings on the green have been reduced, but not stopped. I am considering raising the sprinkler up off the ground several feet and then angling it down slightly to see if that works better or purchasing another unit to have a little better coverage.

ScareCrow
By Jim on 10/08/2014
ScareCrow worked for a week, then stopped working. The eye quite working, you had to touch the eye and it worked but if you waved your hand in front of it it didn't work. Sara at Contech has been a big help, she is sending me a new one.

Battery replacement problem
By Linda on 08/14/2017
I liked the sprinkler. It was quite effective in keeping the deer from eating my flowers, but after a couple of months the battery died. When I went to replace it, I discovered that it is a 4 pack with a wire attached. I cannot find a replacement like that anywhere, not even at Batteries Plus. Why don't you sell them? I have two other ones that are a bit different, and they both used 9V batteries.

Not useful for small birds
By Bob on 05/28/2013
I bought this to keep small birds away from my pool but it doe not always detect them and when it does go off, it dose not scare them. Also it kicks on about every 5 min or so even though nothing is there to activate it. I might use it in my garden as it does scare the dog so at least it will keep her out. I think this item is over priced for what it is and how it works.

Does not work for cats
By Jesus on 07/15/2014
Great while they last.
By Arnie on 04/19/2015
Would give this product a 5 star review if they lasted more than a season. This is the fourth ScareCrow we have bought so far. They work wonderful and can be adjusted for distance and sensitivity. I use two in the garden and they keep the deer out. Problem is only one of the four has lasted more than a year. I remove the battery when I put them up for the winter and store them inside out of the weather. In the spring when I take them out of storage they inevitably fail. I've reset them as instructed and even put brand new batteries in them. I'm a retired engineer so I pride my self on being able to repair most things. Problem with these is, short of replacing the motion sensor nothing can be done. Yes I've adjusted water pressure to numerous psi.

Nothing like eating crow!
By D. on 07/17/2014
I assembled according to instructions, but unit leaked immediately. Motion detection was poor. I called customer service. They are so nice and gladly refunded the whole amount. I can't say enough about this awesome company. They stand strongly behind their products. They didn't even charge me for shipping. I will continue to do business with them!

Not For Ducks
By Gary on 10/05/2014
We have a pond next to our back yard and ducks have recently started invading us. The ScareCrow worked for about 20 minutes and then the ducks just ignored it and kept coming on our property. We have tried different locations and settings. Nothing seems to make any difference. This device may work for other animals, but not for ducks.
