    Will Sedgehammer Herbicide kill flowers?
    A
    The Sedgehammer Herbicide is labled to control only the broadleaf weeds listed, however since flowers are considered a broad leaf plant species as well, you would want to not spray over the top of the desireable plants. Try to limit sprays to only the weeds you wish to eliminate and be cautious of any drift of the product to nearby flowers.

    What do I do after the nutsedge turn brown after several days after using Sedgehammer?
    Do I pull the weed out manually? Or do I just leave the brown dead Nutsedge in the turf grass?

    You do not want to dig up the treated sedge as it will take time to completely kill and you may need to do another application.  Most of our customers begin to see results in 5 to 7 days, as long as the product was applied correctly according to the label.  The product label does state that the product often works with one application, but depending on the size and age of the nutsedge a second treatment may be required 6 to 10 weeks after the initial treatment.

    Will Sedgehammer damage my Loriope garden?
    A
    Sedgehammer is one of the most “gentle- to- turf” products around. It has proven to be safe to most commonly used grasses of North America and has been successfully used for many years. Many other products are safe to only warm season or certain kinds of turfgrass. Turf should be well established with a good root system prior to application. We recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to enquire about  specific plants when using SedgeHammer to be sure it will not cause damage.

    No, Sedgehammer Herbicide is only labeled for kyllinga, yellow and purple nutsedge.

    How long after applying SedgeHammer Herbicide can I plant seeds in my vegetable garden?
    I'm planning to plant a vegetable garden where there is currently nutgrass in the soil. If I apply SedgeHammer, how long would I have to wait to plant?
    A

    SedgeHammer may not be the best option for you.  It is meant more for nutsedge control in turf grass and it cannot be used in or around a vegetable garden or anything edible. It remains in the soil for up to 3 years so the manufacturer recommends that you not plant anything edible in an area where SedgeHammer has been applied for at least 3 years.  For nutsedge control in or around a vegetable garden it is recommended to spot treat the sedge with a glyphosate or RoundUp type product directly.  With this type of product it is only necessary to wait 2-3 weeks after application to plant vegetables or anything else.  We would recommend Roundup QuickPro 1.5 oz. packs for ease of use.

    Also, you should not just pull the plants. This will just split off the rhizome and more new plants will grow from the nutlets left in the soil. To completely remove the plants, you would need to completely dig out the nutlets so that new plants do not grow from them. Many folks will still till the soil after using RoundUp to be sure there are no remaining nutlets that will grow new plants.

    How many seasons does it take Sedgehammer to completely rid your lawn of nut sedge?

    How long it takes really depends on how established the nutsedge has gotten in the yard.  It should be noted that weeds can develop resistance to herbicides such as Sedgehammer. To minimize the potential for resistance development and/or to control resistant weed biotypes, use a variety of cultural, mechanical, and chemical weed control tactics. Rotate with herbicides having other modes of action such as Blindside.  With Sedgehammer per the label: Symptoms are likely to show within 2 weeks and though it often works with one application, but depending on the size and age of the nutsedge a second treatment may be required 6 to 10 weeks after the initial treatment. .

    Does indicator dye inhibit efficacy of SedgeHammer Herbicide?
    I would like to use this product as a spot spray. Indicator dye would make it easier to prevent missing and/or over application. However, I don't want to use it if it will interfere with efficacy.

    SedgeHammer Herbicide will not effected by using a spray indicator with it. A spray indicator does ensure you have even herbicide application and that you do not miss places where you may need to treat.

    What is the shelf life for SedgeHammer? Is this the best product for nutsedge control?

    Yes, Sedgehammer is a great product for nutsedge! It has a 3 yr year shelf life from the date of purchase if stored away from extreme temperatures. If diluted, you will want to apply within 24 hrs of mixing for the most effective control.

    Is it okay to spray SedgeHammer Herbicide when it's one hundred degrees out? Does the temperature have any effect on SedgeHammer?

    SedgeHammer Herbicide is best applied when temperatures are below 85 degrees. We generally recommend applying this product in the morning or later in the evening, but not in the heat of the day to avoid potential damage.

    The Sedgehammer herbicide kills nutsedge without injury to listed established turfgrass, however it could harm desirable ornamentals, shrubs, and/or trees. You should not apply Sedgehammer in a way that would contact desirable ornamental plants.

    How soon is it safe to plant new perennials?
    I have a perennial garden that sprouted nutsedge. I sprayed the area about three weeks ago, and the weed is nearly dead, but still slightly yellow. When will it be safe to plant my new perennials? Should I assume that my new milkweed plants should not be planted in the bed?

    You can plant new perennials at least 4-6 week after SedgeHammer Herbicide application.

    Will Sedgehammer Herbicide harm my roses?
    I have nutgrass growing in my rose garden, & I want to get grid of it. If I spray the nutgrass with Sedgehammer, will it also affect my roses.

    Sedgehammer Herbicide kills nutsedge without injury to listed turfgrasses. You can apply Sedgehammer at specified rates as a post-directed spray around established woody ornamental species in landscaped areas. This would be safe to use around your roses only if you are not spraying them directly and they are well-established, woody plants.  You should make direct treatments to the nutsedge only as it cannot be used as an over-the-top spray to desirable flowers.
