    Q
I need to control scale on a young tulip tree.
Will Sevin concentrate poured on the ground in the root area do the job?
    A
Sevin Concentrate is used mainly as a foliar treatment. It can be sprayed directly on the tree to treat for scale. If you are wanting to treat systemically, Fertilome Tree & Shrub Insect Drench would be a better option. It is safe to use on your trees. You will use 1 fl. oz. per inch of distance around the trunk.

  • Asked by Jamie from San Mateo

    Q
Will Sevin Concentrate work on an apricot tree that has borers?
Tree is producing sap bubbles, clear and parts of the limbs are dying.
    A

Sevin Concentrate could be used on apricot trees for prevention and early treatment. Per the product label: Do not use on large trees or where pest populations are generally inaccessible to spray deposits, as inadequate performance will result.

Unfortunately, once the borers have already infested the tree there are not any viable treatment options as they would be protected from sprays. In cases of infestation the general recommendation is to simply protect the surrounding trees with preventative sprays with a product labeled for such a use.  There is a great read here by University of CA.

  • Asked by Robert

    Q
Will Sevin Concentrate kill grass root eating worms 2-3 inched below the soil surface?
    A

While Sevin Concentrate is labeled for armyworms and cutworms, it will not work for grubs.  It is important to know exactly what type of worm you are dealing with to be able to confirm if it will work for them.  If you are able to get a picture of the worm and email it to us at support@domyownpestcontrol.com , we can try to assist in identifying the pest.  We will say that Sevin is a not a systemic so it is not absorbed by grass for those pests that feed on the roots.
