What is Sevin Dust?
Sevin insecticide dust (made by Garden Tech) is a popular name-brand pesticide containing carbaryl, a pest control product that has been used by gardners for years to control insects in gardens, ornamentals and on crops and edible vegetables. Sevin dust is considered a broad-spectrum insecticide, meaning that it will kill the majority of insects that come into contact with it. This includes insects that infest vegetable plants as well as some pollinating and flying insects.
Sevin dust bug killer is available in a dust form as well as a liquid concentrate. Most gardners prefer Sevin Dust as it is easier to apply in the dust form and comes in a covenient 1 lb. shaker container. Be careful when applying Sevin on flowering plants or flowers that attract pollinating insects as Sevin will kill those beneficial insects if they should come in contact with the chemical. Sevin has low toxicity to mammals when used as directed.
Fire Ants!

I work with wolves, and we receintly moved the entire pack to a new facility. It was over run with Fire ants and biting our poor wolves feet and bodys. I put the powder on the opening of the ant hill, and no more ants! The other products just made them move their hole about a foot away, but I'm not seeing any new holes.

Sevin Dust 5% - 3 Pack should not be applied to any animal including a pregnant dog. You want to treat inaccessible areas that the dog frequents. The product should be stored/applied away from the pet following label instructions. We recommend that you consult with your local vet for further recommendations based on the needs of the dog also.

My dogs have whipworms and some of the information I have found on the internet suggest using Sevin Dust to get rid of them in the yard as they are extremely tough to eradicate.
Sevin Dust does not specifically label whipworms for eradication. Unfortunately, there are no products on the market to kill or control whipworm eggs in the soil. Here are a few options for you: 1. Remove the first 4"-6" of soil from the entire area the dog uses and replace with new soil and reseed with grass. 2. Keep the dog on Interceptor Heartworm preventative which also keeps whipworm eggs from developing into parasites in the dog. 3. Keep the dog away from the infested area for at least 5 years and always pick up feces every couple of days from the new area to stop the new area from becoming infested.

I had to dust my whole yard for fleas, it was bad. How long before I can let the dogs out in the yard, should I water it some first to get it off the tops of the leaves? They are small dogs and I don't want the getting sick from this.
Seven Dust 5% is not labeled to treat fleas, only flea beetles. We recommend contacting the manufacturer directly for the proper steps to ensure your pets safety. Please call Garden Tech at 1-866-945-5033.
For treating fleas inside and outside the home, we recommend our Indoor/Outdoor Flea Kit along with topical flea treatment such as Martins Prefurred Plus for dogs.
Both Onslaught and Martins IGR will have instructions on the bottle that you need to read before use. Always read the product labels.
Outdoor Use:
Onslaught Insecticide: Mix 0.5 to 1.0 fluid ounce of Onslaught in sufficient water to cover 1,000 square feet of lawn. Spray the entire lawn with a coarse, wet spray. Repeat this application in two weeks.
Martins IGR: Once you've mixed up the Onslaught according to the instructions mentioned above, simply add the desired amount of Martins IGR to the mix and spray both the Onslaught and Martins IGR at the same time. We recommend about 1 oz of Martins per every 5 gallons of Onslaught solution that you mix up.
Indoor Use:
Onslaught Insecticide: Mix 0.5 oz of Onslaught with 1 gallon of water (+ 1 oz of Martins IGR if needed, please see below) to treat a 1,000 sq ft area. Thoroughly apply as a fine particle broadcast spray to infested rugs, carpets, and pet resting areas.
Martins IGR: Add 1 oz of Martins IGR to the diluted solution of Onslaught for the initial treatment.
Prior to treatment, carpets, draperies and upholstered furniture should be vacuumed thoroughly and the vacuum cleaner bag disposed of in an outdoor trash receptacle. Remove pets from area to be treated. After treatment, do not allow children and pets into treated areas until spray has dried. You should vacuum once daily every day for the next 14 days to help speed up the flea elimination process. A second application of Onslaught may be needed after 14 days.

I was also told to sprinkle the Sevin around the perimeter of my porch. I just need to know when myself and my cat are safe to sit and enjoy the porch again?
Generally, Sevin is to be applied in areas where animals/pets will not be. Pets need to be kept of out the treated area until the Sevin Dust 5% has time to settle. The dust will likely settle within 1-2 hours.
