    Q
Can I use a Scott's Speedy Green broadcast spreader to apply Snapshot 2.5TG?
If so what would be the setting?
    A

We understand that it is tricky to know what setting to use on your spreader, but since there are so many available on the market, it is important to calibrate your own equipment based on your application and the product you are using. For Snapshot 2.5 TG, you will use 2.3 to 4.6 pounds of granules per 1,000 square feet. Please refer to the product label for the best rates for the area you are treating and the weeds you are targeting. Please see below for more details on how to calibrate your spreaders. Many folks will start at either the lowest setting or at 1 setting lower than the middle setting. We also have an excellent instructional video here.

Almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 4 ounces of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the Snapshot in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet.

Is Trifluralin a good pre-emergent for stiltgrass?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. is not labeled for stiltgrass. Most university studies recommend a product containing the active ingredient of Pendimethalin.  Pendulum 3.3EC contains that active ingredient, however it does not list stiltgrass specifically.

Snapshot 2.5 TG does not control established plants so your turf may be okay. Snapshot 2.5TG is not recommended for weed control in turfgrasses, but turfgrasses are generally tolerant to small amounts of this product that fall outside of the intended area of application.

  • Asked by Elaine from Salem, Ohio

    Q
Can Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. get too much water?
Will it be ok if I put it down and it rains hard all day?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. does require watering in after application to get down into the soil to create the barrier. If there is a heavy rain that happens before this is down or right after application it could move the granules, making the application ineffective. It would be best to wait until no heavy rain is expected within 24 hours and then water in 1/2 inch after application.

  • Asked by Jerry from Brandon Ms
    04/30/2021
    Q
Will Snapshot eliminate weeds or should I have a different product applied?
Using lawn service to handle weeds in beds.
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG is a pre-emergent, meaning that it prevents seeds from germinating. This product will help to prevent labeled weeds from coming up when used as instructed, however, it will not control already existing or actively growing weeds. Broadleaf weeds in a flower & ornamental beds will be treated very differently and much more carefully than would be needed in a lawn. Any broadleaf weeds (like clover, violets, dandelion, bittercress, etc) have to be hand pulled or directly spot treated with a general weed control product or roundup. Since broadleaf weeds are so similar in nature to most plants found in bedding areas, you would not be able to spray over the top without harming both. Any grassy weeds can usually be controlled with an over the top broadcast spray in flower beds with no worry of harm coming to them, but you will always want to check the product label for your specific species to be sure it’s safe. We recommend using pre-emergents as that is the most effective way to stop weeds especially in flower bed areas where chemical options are limited. Below you fill find links to liquid and granule options for your bedding areas.

Post Emergent (kills what has already emerged from the soil)
    Grass Out Max
Non Ionic Surfactant- (needs to be mixed in with the Grass Out Max and water solution)

    Pre-Emergent Herbicide
    Snapshot Herbicide

    Q
Is Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide labeled for prevention of sticker weeds from germinating as well as killing actively growing sticker weeds?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG is not labeled to for pre emergent or post emergent control of stickers (lawn burweed) and can only be used in landscape beds, ornamentals, etc.

For Lawn Applciations, Pendulum 2G Herbicide is labeled for pre emergent control of lawn burweed and can be used in both lawns and around listed ornamentals to prevent weeds from germinating. Please review the product label for full list of tolerant ornamentals and turfgrass types.

For actively growing lawn burweed in lawn, Ferti-Lome Weed-Out Broadleaf Weed Control can be used depending on your turfgrass. Review the product label for your turfgrass and application rates.

In landscape beds or around ornamentals, actively growing Lawn Burweed will have to be directly spot treated with a non selective such as Roundup QuickPRO.  There is not a selective post emergent that will kill the lawn burweed without injurying ornamentals, flowers, or shrubs,.
