    Q
Will Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide harm shrubs if applied on leaves and body of plant?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG is best applied directly to the soil and then watered in as it is a pre-emergent herbicide.  If some granules get on the leaves during application, these should be knocked off if they do not come off after watering.

    Q
Will the Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide stain yellow?
I have used Snapshot DG in the past because the product is brown. Will this formulation stain yellow? Are there any cons to using the TG formulation vs. the DG formulation?
    A

According to our Rep with Dow Agro, the only difference in the Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide and Snapshot 2.5 DG is the package size and coloring of the granule The DG formulation does use also use the Andersons patented DG Lite formulation, which features a dispersible granule for improved, uniform coverage.

The application and active ingredients are both the same. The Snapshot 2.5 DG has now been discontinued but the 2 different coloring of the granules was due to to some Turf Pros not wanting a yellow granule and prefer the brown granule but neither should stain.

    Q
Can Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide be used in a desert garden containing a variety of cacti?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. provides pre-emergent control of certain broadleaf weeds and annual grasses to listed landscape and field grown ornamentals on the product label, which do not include cacti or succulents.

You could consider instead using Dimension 2EW pre-emergent herbicide, which can also be used in landscape ornamentals, and includes cactus as a tolerant ornamental listed on the product label, if used as directed.

    Q
Can Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide damage ground ivy if it is applied a little too heavily?
I have a bunch of ground ivy that I use Snapshot on now for several years, primarily to keep Japanese stilt weed away. It does the job well. This year, for the first time, the ground ivy is struggling to recover from the winter in VA and the deer munching. I was wondering if I maybe put a little too much Snapshot on this past March. Also, what is the recommended frequency of application?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. can be used twice a year with the max rate of 600 pounds per acre per year. Any time you over apply a product there is always a chance that you might cause some damage. Also make sure granules are going closer to the ground and not on the leaves of the plant.

Refer to the Broadcast Rate Chart on page 2 of the product label for the low, medium and high applications per 1000 sq ft and per 100 sq ft.

    Q
Does Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide injure or kill ivy groundcover?
I have a large area of ivy ground cover that has been doing quite well until the Japanese Stiltgrass showed up and left an ugly straw-like mess after winter die off. Snapshot was recommended, which seemed to do the trick. But now the Ivy is struggling mightily. Did I put on too much Snapshot (killing the ivy slowly?) or too frequently (every 60 days). Is twice a year enough (early March and then June). Or is Snapshot not the correct stuff to keep Stiltgrass out of the ivy ground cover? What else would work better?
    A

Unfortunately, since Snapshot 2.5 TG does not specificaly list Japanese Stiltgrass as one of the weeds controlled, there is no information to determine a recommended application rate. This product is labeled safe for many varieties of ivy including english, Algerian, and ivy geranium but would not be used on morning glory ivyleaf as this is listed as a weed controlled at the 150lb per acre rate.

Under General Use/Application Instructions Section on page 2 of the Snapshot 2.5 TG product label, it advises that repeat applications at the 150lb per acre (3.45lbs per 1000 sq ft / 0.35lbs per 100 sq ft) or 200lbs per acre(4.6lbs per 1000 sq ft / 0.46lbs per 100 sq ft) should not be made sooner than 60 days following the initial application. If applications were not watered in sufficiently with atleast 0.5 inches of water or if the granules overlapped, this can cause injury to desirable ground covers.

A better option for pre emergent control of Japanese Stiltgrass in landscape beds would be Dimension 2EW. This product is tolerant to English Ivy and does specifically list Japanese Stiltgrass (Mary’s Grass) is as a weed controlled. Application rate is 0.73 fl oz per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft or for smaller areas, 0.073 (2.2 ml) per 16 to 32 oz of water. Apply in a single application or sequential applications at 5 to 10 week intervals. View the full product label for more information.

During growing season and summer months, japanese stiltgrass can be controlled with Acclaim Extra that is a post emergent herbicide labeled to control Japanese Stiltgrass and safe for English Ivy ornamentals/groundcover. Please review the full product label for more information

Pre emergents work best for this weed when applied before stiltgrass germinates which occurs several weeks before crabgrass germiantion. Contact your County Extension Office for exact timing recommendations for your area.

    Q
Can I apply Snapshot DG while weeds are already present to prevent new ones from emerging??
I have a project in my house I'm working on and I have limited amount of time. I'm working on one side of the house at a time. While I'm not able to get to a certain side of the house, can I apply snapshot DG to prevent new weeds from emerging. The area already has so many weeds and I just need another week or so to get to that side so I can pull them but in the meantime I would like to prevent new ones from emerging. Thank you
    A

All pre-emergents such as Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs., needs to be applied before soil temperatures reach 50 degrees. However the product will not control weeds that have already emerged. Generally pre-emergents are applied between Fall-Spring, but you can reach out to your local extension office for assisting in timing in your area.

    Q
What is the best pre and post emergent herbicides for a bermuda lawn in Mississippi?
Weeds are taking over my bermuda yard and i need a good weed control plan. Any help would be much appreciated
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide is not labeld for use in lawns and should only be applied in established landscape beds, ornamentals, flowers, shrubs, etc for pre emergent control of weeds.

In order for us to recommend the best selective herbicides for pre and post emergent control of weeds, we would need to know a few of the specific weeds you are targeting and how many square feet you have to cover. Please take a moment to review our Bermuda Grass Care Guide that provides information and a few product recommendations for keeping your lawn healthy and weed free. Our Warm Season Lawn Care Schedule and Common Weed Guides are also available to provide information on timing of practices throughout the year and to help help to identify/ treat some of the most common lawn weeds & diseases.

For weed/disease identifications not covered in our Lawn Care Guides, please contact your Master Gardener with the County Extension Office for assistance.
